I have a feeling it will work out...they'll find room.

I hope so. I start my vacation tomorrow, so I can work on planning. I have a few days before the madness starts.
Kina and Envoy are MUDDY. They found a really good rolling spot. I need to get out there and start brushing.

Re: Everyone is home
Fortunately, they dried, and mud removal wasn't too horrible. I was filthy, but they looked better. Kina had mud balls in her front feet. Shoes make for some fantastic mud (and snow) balls.
Today's ride with Envoy was nice. He was pretty spooky since the hunters and dogs are out. He jumped at a lot of unseen things. But, I tried to keep him busy, so he relaxed enough to do some good therapy work. We got some good, forward walking. I also longed him left and right. His left hind still seems to bother him when he starts to canter. I'm sure he could warm up into it, but with the slippery areas in the pasture, that will have to wait until we get somewhere with good footing. I don't want him to slip and slide into another injury.

Happy to hear that you had a nice ride. The slick spots sound scary to me though.

The good thing is that you can see where the slick spots are. They have less grass stubble than the not-slick spots. Since I know where they are, I adjust where I ride. But, I'm just not taking a chance with Envoy's legs. Better safe than sorry. He can keep fitness with just walking if need be, and spring will be a better time to work on more interesting things.

That's good that you can see them and you can accomplish a lot at the walk.

Very glad you can see the slick spots.....can't do that here on the pavement.
Definitely better safe than sorry, for both your sakes. If he gets injured, you could fall off during whatever accident does it to him.

Re: Everyone is home
It absolutely POURED on Christmas Eve. We have standing water all over the place. The riding pasture looks dry, but the ground is squishy everywhere. Amazing and sad... No riding for a while, and it's supposed to rain again tomorrow.
The horses have enjoyed rolling in some mud, and are now happily munching in the sun spots. I hope they soak up as much sun as they can. Looks like a gloomy couple of days coming up. Winter... Does it ever end?

Amen!!!
Arni, they can get a better grip on the roads. I need to ride with buddies because neither Envoy nor Kina wants to go alone. We don't do any real work out there because we keep an ear out for traffic, but we can at least get some time in.

Re: Everyone is home
Ugh... More rain. The horses were going to spend yesterday inside, but they decided that they would be bad in their stalls. They wanted OUT. So, I put their sheets on and out they went. It poured rain, but they didn't care. It's still cloudy and threatening rain, but they're out again. I had to put them in the pasture that was going to rest for a few months. We have flooding and mud in the back of the two other pastures. Maybe those will be the resting pastures.

Re: Everyone is home
I think they're in the dry(ish) pasture for a while. I go to the boarding school farm on Saturday to celebrate the new year. We'll figure out what the winter holds.
I hope spring brings some good things to the 2 pastures. Since we removed the trees and cleaned out the ditches, it looks like a war zone back there. But, we did all that work in November, so no grass and lots of rain mean that the mud is terrible. I hope the grass takes hold. If not, we have plenty of piled-up dirt to fill in the muddy spots, and we can seed in the spring. GULP

Re: Everyone is home
Envoy and I had a nice New Year's ride today. It was very windy, and a couple times we almost took off. But, since Kina was in the pasture with us, we were all happy just to walk around the moist ground. No super slick spots as long as we stuck to the walk.

Re: Everyone is home
Looks like the weather's heading down the tubes now. Clouding up, and rain's on the way. It will be warm and wet for the weekend, and then COLD. Sigh... No riding again for a while.
I was supposed to meet with my friend who runs boarding school. She emailed today to say she's down with flu. We will reschedule. No reason to chance getting sick too. I'm supposed to go back to work on Monday. I don't want to be on my a** with that mess. Sigh...

Re: Everyone is home
This years flu is a really bad one....we have people in the hospital with it and several have died. Good to stay away from it if you can.
Your weather is kinda like ours only warmer. We've had snow already, it's 30 out there as I type this, now getting freezing fog, to be followed with sleet and more snow and "plunging temps". We'll be lucky to get above 8 this coming week for actual temps. One day this week the high temp is predicted to be 0. The weatherman is talking -14 for our low on Wednesday night. That is actual temp, not windchill.

Re: Everyone is home
Ugh! BRR!
I will be taking the horses to boarding school, but I'm going to wait at least until next week to make plans. I want my friend to be back up to snuff. Nothing like fever/aches/pains to make someone not want to deal with anyone. Best to let her drink her tea with honey and stay in bed for a while.
I am getting a cold, but no flu. I don't have a fever. Just stuffy/runny nose and a sore throat. I had the flu vaccine, so I'm not so worried about it. If I get it at all, it'll probably not be as bad as it could be. I also have the benefit of generally great health. Tonight, it's decongestant and lots of sleep. I hope I'll be on my feet for Monday's back to work day. (YUCK!)

That's a great idea. I understand how she feels. Just burrow under those covers and stay there.
Lot's of sleep and and liquids is the ticket. That reminds BC you know your health better than I. Still it sounds like allgeries rather than a cold. Still be careful.
