That will affect them. That's why I stopped hunting.

Re: Bingo found a home
Well... No conclusions about why his nose is icky. The x-rays look weird. There are definite tissue changes, but they could be the effect of bacteria, fungus, or a tumor. Nothing conclusive except that he had a LOT of mucus in there, and it had bacteria in it. The vet made slides, and will keep them in case the heavy duty antibiotics she put him on don't do the trick in knocking out whatever this is. If he continues to be snotty after 2 weeks, we will send the slides to the lab for analysis and possibly do a biopsy. (The vet elected not to do that yesterday so we could approach slowly. This was EXPENSIVE.)
Bingo feels good now that the anesthesia has worn off. He spent a good deal of time outside, and even munched down a whole chewy to celebrate his excellent dental exam. His teeth are in great shape.

Happy to hear that he came through with flying colors but sorry to hear things are still up in the air. And glad to hear that his teeth are in great shape. If you need help I'm more than willing to hand over my bourbon fund and I know Antonio will gladly give up his treat fund.

Aww... Thank you, friend! It's all fine. We have Care Credit, which allowed us to finance interest-free for 18 months. It won't take that long to pay it off, but it gives us a stretch through hay and big power bill season.
Today, he's sound asleep because the weather is, once again, miserable. I don't see any outside chewy time. I will give him one when I jet off to do things for the afternoon, but it will have to be an inside chewy.

He must feel great. I forgot to put up the baby gate, and he counter surfed. He ate the WHOLE BAG of sample food the vet gave us. It should have been about 5 meals. No harm done as far as I can see, but he is on a diet for a while now. Good news is that the food does seem to have taken care of some of his itchy issues. He has been on a daily pill, but we're trying a monthly shot and new food. I guess the big food dose is one way of testing. LOL

At least we know he likes the new food and that he doesn't get an upset tummy from a quick switch.

Oh yes! And he gets the sneak barfs that I don't find until morning. It's awful. But, so far, so good.

The vet called today to check on him. It was really nice to hear from them. So far, nothing to report. He is happy and seemingly healthy even though he doesn't like to take his pills. I need to roll them up in peanut butter.

What a wonderful vet. Think he would like them in a piece of stew beef better?

He would LOVE stew beef, but I'm afraid he could work the pill out. He's an expert. He gulps pb so fast that he doesn't even recognize the pill. Just swallows it all down and licks his lips (and the spoon) for the last few tastes. So far, it's working and we only have a few more days to go.

Re: Bingo found a home
Bingo gets to go to play tomorrow instead of Wednesday. He normally goes on my second long commute day, but this week, I'm only going once. (I want to ask the boss if I can make that a thing - or at least go less often on a different schedule.) Anyway... Bingo is excited because he doesn't have to stay at home alone at all this week except when we go out to an alumni dinner on Wednesday.
Then, on Thursday, he gets his recheck. I think the vet will be sending his slides to the lab to check for weirdness. His congestion is coming back although it is a bit different this time. We'll see. But, I'm positive that there is more investigation and treatment to be done. (Wallet is crying.)

That sounds like fun. I can see having one less day to drive a long way.
Hope is recheck goes well and I truly understand about the wallet.

Re: Bingo found a home
We decided to postpone the recheck until after the slide results come back. He is doing fine with not as much yuck from his nose. But, even a little is cause to send in the slides, so those went today. He gets the next "itchy" shot on the 21st, so he'll just get his recheck then.
Tomorrow we pack up and go visit my friend who watches the house and horses while we're away. It's only an overnight visit, but Bingo will be able to play with his friend, Mateo. My friend and I will try to ride (if it doesn't rain), and plan to drink too much wine and eat too much food. It is going to be girls'/dogs' weekend.

Re: Bingo found a home
There's something in the slides, which is why the vet kept them. She said "interesting," which tells me she couldn't identify it. It might be fungal (ICK!), or just a bacterium she hasn't seen a lot of. We'll find out soon enough. Bingo's nose is a bit better on the outside (not as much nasty discharge), but he sounded very congested this morning. That seemed to clear up after he took his morning constitutional, so I'm guessing it's all just gravity doing its thing.
Now, we get to do barn chores and get on the road. Of course, the skies are clouding up as we do our prep. Sigh...

Re: Bingo found a home
I don't think it will be. He seems healthy and happy otherwise, so it's just something unusual that causes boogers. LOL
He had a great time at his friend's house even though it was wet and miserable. Mateo has a wonderful back porch with a dog "house" underneath, and a big fenced back yard. The dogs had so much fun running around and playing.

Well hopefully you will find the cause of boogers soon.
Glad they had fun despite it being wet and miserable. Like the dog house idea.

Re: Bingo found a home
The lab results came back today. No neoplastic cells, so cancer is VERY unlikely. There were lots of white blood cells, which of course, is infection. And, there were epithelial cells, which indicate inflammation. So, the next step is another swab to identify the bacteria and to treat with the appropriate meds. I believe they are also going to do a biopsy just to do a deeper analysis. No scoping yet. So... I get to make another appointment tomorrow.
I'm just so relieved that there is no cancer.
