Yeah... The vet thinks there is something stuck in there that he can't see without an endoscope. So, tomorrow we call the internal medicine clinic and schedule to see what's going on. Since the antibiotics seem to be addressing the problem, I'm inclined to say it has to be something stuck rather than cancer, which would "respond" more to anti-inflammatory drugs. He's doing really well now, and only has a few sneezes and snorts, so we're happy but curious.

Re: Bingo found a home
We go early Wednesday morning. I have a bunch of paperwork to fill out, and poor dog won't get breakfast in case he needs to go under for a procedure. We do the consult, and then the specialist vet decides. I bet he will want to take a look.

My money says so. Still poor pup, no breakfast. That's torture.

Re: Bingo found a home
Tomorrow's the big day. Once he's all settled in (if he has to stay), I need to run to his regular vet to drop off his "present" for a worm check. If it isn't done, he won't be able to go to play next week.
I am looking forward to finding out what's making the poor guy so stuffy.

Re: Bingo found a home
Well... It wasn't the best news. The vet thinks he has a mass in his nose. He sent a biopsy. It could be a granuloma (benign tissue growth) or a malignant cancerous tumor. We should know for sure next week when the lab sends results. We're hoping for the best, but are prepared to hear bad news.
He is staying at the hospital overnight just to be sure he doesn't bleed or take the nasal packing out too soon. I'll pick him up tomorrow and take him right to the snack store so he can pick his chewies.

I saw the picture of the mass. It looks like a black bean. Right now, he's breathing well and resting. He's exhausted. He won't let me put the decongestant drops in his nose to help control the little bit of bleeding he has. So, we have towels following him to all of his sleeping places. Silly dog. Bleeding isn't too bad. Just recovery from the scope and totally expected.

Poo guy. I imagine he's totally done with things being stuck up his nose. Happy to hear that the bleeding isn't that bad.

Re: Bingo found a home
I took him out to lunch with a friend of mine today. We are having really nice weather for a couple of days, so we sat on the porch. I ordered him a bowl of chicken and rice soup that we let cool down while we waited for our lunches. He got a good feed on that and everyone at the restaurant thought he was great. He was the star with staff and patrons.

Re: Bingo found a home
We have no nose bleeds today and no signs from overnight. I guess he's healing. I think now he is expecting soup every day. He looked a little disappointed at his usual kibble and pumpkin breakfast.

Re: Bingo found a home
The nose doc called today. As expected, it's cancer. We could try radiation therapy, but it is not a cure. It just delays the inevitable. So, we decided to provide hospice care and keep him as comfortable and happy as possible. So far, he feels pretty good and is happy, so no worries. Expected life span with this kind of tumor is between 6 and 12 months, so we have a while. I hope he's one of the few who live longer.

Re: Bingo found a home
Thank you, Sue and Tonio. It's hard, but we're happy he is still feeling good. I am calling the regular vet tomorrow to get his meds ordered. Maybe they will have other suggestions as well. We'll see.
Today, he went to play like usual, and he did really well. He would play and then nap - just like he always does. So, we will continue on as normally as we can until we can't.

Re: Bingo found a home
I talked with the vet Friday. They want to be absolutely sure they have the best meds for Bingo, so they're consulting with the endoscopy doctor and an oncologist. Even though we are not going to treat the tumor directly, the oncologist deals with this disease, and so knows more about which meds help the most. Hoping to hear something tomorrow. Specialists are always busy. Sigh...
Bingo is doing really well. He got a bath yesterday and feels MUCH better. He is hiding inside a lot since it is very hot and humid here. Welcome summer!

Glad he is doing well and that the bath helped. I'm sure like Antonio he has staked out the prime real estate for the a/c.

Re: Bingo found a home
LOL - most definitely!
I got the writeup from the endoscopy vet. It tells the kind of tumor it is, prognosis, possible treatments (that we've declined), and meds. I will be talking to the regular vets to get the meds started so we don't have to load him up when symptoms start up. Gradual increase has to be better than slamming his system all at once.

Re: Bingo found a home
Today I talked to the regular vet. He agrees that the way we're going is probably best. I ordered the first kind of meds today. It's basically a cox2 inhibitor NSAID, which decreases any inflammation, and in some animals can slow the tumor a bit. We're hoping it slows Bingo's, but we understand that it might not.
