Hair growth
Here's one for you. Because the flea season was so bad I had to have Antonio given a lion cut. His hair has still not grown out to its past lush length. Also it's growing back with a lot of white in it. Not the deep black of his previous coat. Is this normal?

I have no idea, but it doesn't seem right to me.

It's grown out more since I first posted and is getting darker.

Maybe he has a frost 'n tip colored coat? I know people who pay a small fortune to have hair looks like that.

That's what I was thinking. GK's not as fluffy as Tonio, but he still looks almost naked. I can barely see where his stripes will be when he gets his fur back. I just hope they grow back the right way so they aren't all broken up across his chest.

Re: Hair growth
We had a dog whose hair grew in color bands. Pick a single hair to look at: it would grow a bit in one color, then change color for a bit, then go back to the original color, then grow a bit more in the other color.....really made her look like she'd had her hair done in a frost n tip job at the beauty parlor.

Re: Hair growth
My friend called me today to say that one of the visitor kitties tested positive for feline leukemia. He is still healthy, but I need to check my kids to see if they are positive too, and if not get them vaccinated. We have no idea where he came in contact with it, and don't know if he had it when he was here. So, it's time to play it safe. I am hoping for a negative test result. I am sure GK has been vaccinated in the past because he was an inside/outside kitty, but I don't think I did Mouski because he was inside only. Off to the vet ASAP!

That's scary. You know before you rush to the vet check with the page Shadow Cats Rescue. They and Texas Central Cat Hospital specialize in those cats and you may not have any reason to panic.

Re: Hair growth
Thanks, Sue. Good to know.
Mouski is due for his checkup, so it's no big deal to get one extra test/vaccine done. GK has had the vaccine, so I'm not really worried about him.

Re: Hair growth
OhNo! I hope the visitor kitty stays healthy despite his diagnosis. I know it's possible for some of them to live a long healthy life and live with other non-positive kitties without giving it to them.
I'd still get them tested though, vaccines only work for so long. Blood titer level test is the only way to know for sure if he has enough antibodies in his system to fight it off. Same for peoples.....remember when they thought the pneumonia vaccine was good for life? They found out it wasn't and now say 10 years. For some of us that would be true but for others it isn't.

Re: Hair growth
Everything tested fine for kitties here. The visitor kitty goes for his 2nd test soon. They want to be sure he didn't have a false positive.
