Re: Freddy pictures
He was rarin' to go this morning. He drank all his milk, ate all his wet food, ate some crunchies, and enthusiastically rubbed ankles! Usually, he doesn't want to come out of his carrier, and I have to coax him with food, but this morning he OWNED the bathroom.

He is too cute for words. Freddie gives me an idea of what Antonio
may have looked like as a kit. Glad to hear he came out for food and
ate like a horse.

WONDERFUL NEWS! I am so glad Freddie is feeling so much better. I have a feeling he'll turn out to be a social butterfly in fur, just like Bijoux. A real people kitty, and a stunningly handsome lil guy too.

Very good news! It sounds like his recovery is almost matching Tippy's. (Tippy? The white kitty... Who knows...)

Re: Freddy pictures
Last night I had him on my lap while we were watching TV. He kept trying to grab my hand, and he doesn't have the "velvet paws" concept down. When I took my hand away and stopped the game, I heard a little kitten growl! He was too comfortable to get up and try to track that hand down, but he still wanted to play.

Re: Freddy pictures
An ornery streak...sounds kinda like what Beans had going on when I first found her in the parking lot. From what I'm remembering, you mentioned not knowing his circumstances other that that he was found all alone at nine weeks of age. It could be that he has not learned all the "rules" that he normally would learn from Mom and/or from having siblings. My Beans is drop dead gorgeous, and because of that, her first first peoples took her away from Mom & Siblings too early and left her in the parking lot because of her "ornery streak". Do you think that could be the reason for Freddy's ornery streak?

Re: Freddy pictures
There is a small feral colony near where Freddy was found. Something probably happened to his momma, I'm afraid. He was wild when he was brought in, but too weak to do much, so he tamed pretty quickly. Little guys in feral colonies have to be pretty tough. There were some other cats on the sofa with us last night, and he may have been a little defensive because they are all bigger than he is.

Re: Freddy pictures
Some cats never get the hang of playing without their claws coming into the picture. Blue didn't understand the concept of play very well, especially with hands. He played occasionally with a stick or a string. Bobby isn't as ornery as Blue was, but he doesn't really hold the claws in like he should while playing with hands either.
Re: Freddy pictures
Hands. My god, that is Weezer's main enemy. She was picked up on the side of the road as a kit maybe 4 weeks old, taken to a shelter where she spent a month in a cage, and adopted by me through no fault of my own (long story). She is nearly 15 now and has mellowed somewhat, especially in the last few years, but she is still an unpredictable cat. She lets me (hoo, she DEMANDS/WANTS me) to stroke her, rub her ears, scritch her chin, all that. But in a flash she can turn and attack my hand. Even just holding out a greeting finger can trigger a hand attack. I don't think feral (and maybe any) kittens who haven't had time to be properly socialized by their own kind can ever really let go of their basic feline defense mechanisms. At least, with Weezer, I think she decided as a clueless baby that HANDS are the scary enemy. *sigh*

Re: Freddy pictures
Freddy doesn't seem to be scared of hands per se. I think that he just can get a little over excited at times, plus he only has good vision on one side, and that probably makes him a little reactive. When his claws come out, the game is over, so he's getting better. He has full run of the bathroom much of the time now, but he doesn't go far from his crate. Any unusual noises, and he darts back in there. Better safe than sorry.

Re: Freddy pictures
He'll learn pretty quickly that if he puts out the claws, the game stops. If he still wants to play he has to be "velvet pawed" for play to continue. You might want to tell Freddy "stop that, too rough" when you take your hand away.
