just got back in the office. They evacuated my building. Felt really weird. The fish in the CFO's tank died.

I was on my bed reading a book and suddenly I felt the bed shaking. It only lated about 15-20 seconds. I had no idea what it was at the time but now I know it was an earthquake!

Good heavens! Yes, I'll be waiting here to see that everyone on the east coast is OK.
Re: Earthquake in Virginia!
Rockin' and rollin' at work. It was actually kind of cool to be swaying back and forth. I've felt earthquakes before, so it wasn't bad. I just stepped to the middle of a room where things wouldn't fall on me. Well... I don't think it was hard enough to make things fall, but no reason to challenge the thought. No damage that I can see around me. Hope all is ok at home. Almost time to go and find out!

Re: Earthquake in Virginia!
an update. apparently the fish did not die. He was just joking around.
It mak have lasted only 15-20 seconds but it seemed much longer when we were swaying back and forth.
I've been in earthquakes before (1 in California and 2 in NYC,) but the others were all early morning and woke me up, so I didn't really feel them conciously.

i'm a freak...i don't remember a single odd thing. the cats were asleep...i was on the computer down here and didn't feel or notice a thing. the only earthquake i've ever felt or saw was back in the early 80s back in MI when i was sitting in the my mom's hospital room and saw the water in the glass by the window move.

We felt it here in central NC, too. (Here we are gearing up for a hurricane and what do we get but an earthquake!? There's a lesson in there somewhere.) Anyway, I was in the bathroom at work brushing my teeth after lunch and thought, "Geez! I'm rocking the whole building! Never noticed that before." Made me wonder about the foundations. Then I came out and everybody was like "What was that??? Did you feel it??" Then one of the guys called from the road saying NPR just said there was an earthquake. Pretty bizarre, lemme tell you. Not the sort of thing we expect around here.
All seemed the same when I got home tonight, nothing fell or broke or anything. I wonder if the furkids even woke up. They're not saying.
I actually feel kinda cheated. If I'd been at my desk I could have actually experienced what went on. Instead I just kept brushing my silly teeth and missed the whole thing. My first (and frankly, I hope my last) earthquake.

Re: Earthquake in Virginia!
I just stepped out of my house for an afternoon walk - was not inside when it hit, but I was carrying a radio and KYW started saying that there was a earthquake! Passed a lot of people who were inside, and they felt it. I felt nothing!

Better quit brushing those choppers and start brushing up on the Bible!
Re: Earthquake in Virginia!
We had a quake here in Colorado, too. It happened near Trinidad, but people here in Lamar felt it. I didn't notice it, nor did any of the dogs or cats, so it must have been pretty mild here.

Re: Earthquake in Virginia!
I heard about the quake in Colorado. too, also.
Here in NYC it seemed if you were outside you didn't feel it but if you were indoors you might, depending on where wyou were sitting I guess. I had dinner with some friends last night and none of them felt it.
when I got home I walked into my bedroom and one of my Star Wars lunch boxes was on the floor. (I keep them on top of the bookshelf). Just the one, and none of my piles of books toppled. Very strange.

Ha! No worries for me! I live in the Bible Belt, so if this IS the End Times, my region will be spared. The TV preachers guarantee it! Well, as long as you've made the appropriate donations. Wait. Uh oh.

LK, That is a perfect blame the cat scenario, but you still don't have any cats, do you? The vibrations must have walked that box right off the shelf. I agree, very strange.

I heard the Carolinas got a strong aftershock. I have a feeling you might get several of those before this all dies down.

the first thing I thought was the cat knocked it over, but as you said, I still don't have a cat. Found out this morning that some boxes in the living room had alsobeen knocked down

Sounds like your house felt the vibrations more than you did in the restaurant, and jiggled the lighter stuff off their perches. Hope nothing was damaged!
