Venus and Jupiter Empty Venus and Jupiter

Post by gbste Sat Feb 25, 2012 11:20 pm

Has anyone been watching Venus and Jupiter line up with the crescent moon the last couple of nights? We watched the night sky on the way out to pick up our fosters after the fair. The two planets appear very close together, and will get closer each evening, while the moon plays along. It looks very neat. You can almost hear the Strauss.

I can only see it early in the evening. Unfortunely with all the light pollution i can't even
begin to get a shot of it.

That's one good thing about living in the boonies. Even in town, we can see this light show. Our rescue van is stored 4 miles out of town, and so we could really see the planets on the way out there.

I don't know about Venus and Jupiter, but tonight the moon is pretty full and VERY bright, riding high above some full clouds. Gorgeous night sky!

And, just to the left of the full moon, managing to shine thru the glare - MARS!! Just a "dot", somewhat reddish, but MARS!

I saw that too, Jim. You could definitely see the reddish cast to the dot!

Yeah, I could see it too. Two bright spots on either side of the moon in the sky...and Mars is definitely reddish.

I looked night before last (last night was overcast), and Mars was close to the moon, but the other two were way off at another area of the sky too.

I think I saw it! Shop Dog and I were out on the deck this evening and I saw a really big, bright star with a kind of sidecar brightness to one side. Maybe a quarter way up in the eastern sky. Could that be it?

Hmmm. Must have been a hovering UFO I saw, then. Oh, well. If they take a good look, they won't bother conquering us.

I'm usually looking somewhere between 9 and 10pm, on my way home to bed. One is nearly overhead of me and the other is in the east (I'm facing south).

I saw them just over the tree line in the west, all lined up horizontally. I have no idea what the other two bright stars I've been seeing overhead are.....other planets maybe that will line up with Mars and Venus later this year?
