Envoy the trail pony
Envoy went on his very first trail ride today. I have a couple friends who like to just walk through the woods having fun. They don't expect to run hell bent, and they're happy to stop and wait if someone needs a break. We started out with Envoy a little "up." He wasn't bolting or acting silly, he was just all tense. He settled well until we came on something that only horses could see. he just froze, bunched up like he was going to either rear or bolt. He wouldn't move anywhere, so I got off and we walked together for a little way. When we came to a stump that was the right size for mounting, I got back on. No harm done. I only had to get off one other time when a mountain biker came up behind us. Envoy wasn't scared, but he WOULD NOT get out of the way. So, I got off and led him off the trail. The bike guy was really nice to wait for us to get everything sorted out.
Overall, it was a glorious day. The weather was perfect, and the trail ride was exactly what I needed to kind of take my mind off things.

Not only for Envoy but the bike rider. Glad it all went so well.
You don't know what my friends and I have been known to do the bike riders and joggers who
cop attitudes and act like they own the trails.

I'm so glad you had a fine day away from your worries, and that you and Envoy enjoyed E's first day at this new "school." (Or should I say "recess!") He didn't know what to expect, but it sounds like he handled the unexpected beautifully (as did you, of course). I especially loved how he didn't freak at the noisy intrusion, yet stood his ground against such rudeness until you showed him how to deal with it. Lovely that the bike guy wasn't really rude, but a share the road sort of person.

Well... Envoy and Casper sure did top the weekend with a bang. They took advantage of a gate I forgot to latch and ran all over the neighborhood this morning. I was trying to chase ponies in work shoes. Ha! That wasn't smart. I had to go back and put on boots. Then it was all over the place: up/down the street, in/out of neighbors' yards, along the woods. They ended up at the horse neighbor's house and stopped to talk. We got Casper (with the help of some grain), and Envoy followed back home. Thank God! It was 1/2 an hour of exercise I didn't want to have before I got any coffee.

Naughty, naughty boys!!
Oh, dear Becky, I'm sorry to laugh. That must have been hell for you! I hope they're ashamed of themselves.
I suspect they're not.

Actually, it was pretty funny.I wasn't mad at all. They weren't running full speed. They were just leading a merry chase around the neighborhood. They were LAUGHING at us, I'm sure. They did get to pay a price later though. They had to stay out in the rain while their stalls were cleaned rather than coming in and getting the cushy treatment. Silly, silly ponies. They were VERY good tonight.
I don't mind if you laugh. I am kind of still laughing too.

After standing out in the rain, I bet they aren't laughing at you anymore. That won't stop them from pulling this stunt again at some point in the future of course.

We've been turning the two troublemakers out of the barn gate so Sabi can see them. We have the gate between that pasture and the big one open so they can go to the better grass in the big pasture. The first thing they do is go check to see if the big pasture gate is open. Troublemakers!

Hoo! Once seen can't be unseen. That's the problem with smart furkids, isn't it? Always the potential for mischief. The rascals!

Envoy's been on his best behavior for the last few days. Maybe he's trying to behave since Sabi has decided that he should be back with his buddies. We're going to the trainer's house today, so I hope he stays good. He always seems to be quite the gentleman there.

Ha! Sounds a lot like teenagers to me. Always "trying something on" at home, but on their best behavior at other people's houses, confounding their mothers when they compare notes!

That's it! They're trying to make us look foolish. (As if we need any help in that department!)
