Re: Everyone is home
Glad your weather was good enough for a ride. Been raining buckets here off/on the past few days, including today.

Re: Everyone is home
More beautiful weather today, but I got home really late. Sigh... It's such a shame to waste nice days.
Tomorrow is hay delivery day. I'm happy that the barn will be loaded up, but I'm sad that my savings account will be drained dry. I'll need another delivery before the hard winter sets in. No idea how to pay for that. I guess it's plastic time.

What's money? Oh yeah... It's that green stuff that horses eat and then it comes out as stinky piles later.

I've got to find this quote by James Squires.

It's a quote about how to become a millionare in the horse business.
It's something about take ten million and wait five years.

Re: Everyone is home
Ain't that the truth?!
Fortunately, the horses are in "cheap" mode right now. They are out on grass most of the time, so our hay and shavings bills aren't too bad. I'm waiting for the big sting of late fall when they start spending more time inside, and the grass is all gone. Sigh...

In a way it's kind of like us....summer laundry is less expensive, food is too, and the utilities.....I dread this winter.

Re: Everyone is home
I think I did more laundry today than ever. We cleared a ton of bamboo and hauled it to the dump. We spent hours outside doing hard work in the hot weather. The horses are now visible in the big pasture. They seemed completely unconcerned about all the hubbub going on best to their field. They were more concerned about the giant flies who are celebrating the late arrival of summer by having a pony feast.

Poor ponies........those flies should be bothering other critters like those coyotes that keep Bingo up at night....or the raccoons...anybody but the ponies.

Well... summer is here. No riding today. It was close to 100 degrees, and just brutal. We haven't had the temps this year to get used to this. The horses have fans in the rafters and blowing on their feet. I hosed them down. It's about all I can do at this point. Thunder is due tonight, and tomorrow is supposed to be a bit better. Can't complain. It's the first real summer we've had.

Re: Everyone is home
It was a much nicer day today. It was 80 humid degrees when I got home, so I saddled up. Envoy did a great job with trotting figure 8s. He's supposed to do that to strengthen his hind legs. I still need to bring him to the vet for injections, but strengthening can't hurt anything. We didn't ride long because the mosquitoes got bad quick. I think I donated my pint of blood.

I hear you there.....the skeeters are thick here too. 3 bites in under 5 minutes yesterday. Nasty lil winged demons from hell.....hope you're not too anemic from your blood 'donation'.

Well... We do live in the swamp. I can't complain too much. We have done a lot of stuff to try to control them as much as we can. The bats are helping. I just hope that nasty white nose disease doesn't come for our bats.
No riding today. Big thunder. It's clearing up now, but I don't feel like dragging out the lights.

Envoy cantered! He wasn't comfortable going to the right, but he did it willingly. I am planning to take him for another injection in the joint in October. Maybe taking him to the clinic will give me other treatment options since the diagnostic equipment there is better than what is in the vet truck.

Could be....good luck with that! Glad Envoy felt better enough to try a canter.

Re: Everyone is home
Today is my "every other Friday" off, and so I rode Cree quick before the rain and thunder show up. He was a really good boy besides his funny bellowing. He is learning to move off my leg with no kicking, and he also lifted his withers. That means that he pushed himself along with his back legs rather than hauled himself around with his front ones. That causes his shoulders to feel like they are lifting and makes the walk feel springier.

Glad you got a ride in.....looks like rain for nearly everyone the next few days. Hurricane remnants all over the map from what I see on weather.com

As long as they're remnants and not the real thing, we're happy. The horses and I do NOT want to evacuate.

Re: Everyone is home
It was drizzly all day yesterday, which was fine. We needed a little rain, and gentle rain is good. The grass is slowing down, so any rain might get it to grow for a few more weeks. The horses spent a LONG day outside since we had a busy day. They didn't mind. All in all, it was a nice, restful day for them. Today, I'll get a ride in.
