Re: home again home again
We're going back to another clinic with the same guy on Halloween. I need to get Envoy into shape. I hope we can ride in this one.

No riding or anything this weekend. The weather is miserable. The horses seem to be happy inside at night.
I ordered hay on Thursday. $1700 of beautiful western orchard grass will be showing up next week after the awful weather passes.

Sounds like you're getting the weather we had a few days ago, when it rained for 3 days straight.

It's a Nor'easter off the coast. Mini hurricane. Fortunately, we're only getting light rain with the heavy winds so far. No flooding -- yet.

Re: home again home again
No floods. Just some much needed rain and some pretty strong winds. The horses are enjoying time off.
Tomorrow is chiropractor day. More wallet pain. I hope we can get his withers and stifle issue sorted out. The woman is supposed to be really good.

Of course I could. But, it's fine. Realistic people don't get into horses with the idea that they will be rich and life will be easy, right?

Re: home again home again
All is good. The horses feel good and sleepy. Envoy got a pretty good go-over. He does in fact show some tenderness on his stifles, and his shoulders are compensating. No surprises. He got chiropractic work and acupuncture, and will get 2 days off. Wednesday he goes back to work.
The vet looked at Kina's x-rays, and said she's had her knee trouble for a long time. It looks like bad arthritis that is causing swelling in the surrounding structures. So, she got light chiro and acupuncture to help her be comfortable in her retirement. She (Kina) was not pleased with the needles around her sore knee, but once they were in, she was pretty happy and looked like she was falling asleep. She went back to her paddock, and rolled. Now, she's in her stall sleeping it all off. The vet said not to be surprised if she looks worse for a couple days. If she doesn't improve by the end of the week, I should call.
So, the only thing not happy about today is my wallet. But, I knew that going in.

So far, so good. The horses stayed out last night because it was pleasant -- if a bit humid. Today, we have rain. Then possible tropical weather. Ugh! I sure hope we're not evacuating. I'm not ready!

Re: home again home again
The horses are in tonight. It's pouring, and there's no sign of it stopping. It looks like 3 or 4 days of this mess. I plan to put them out during the day at least for a little while. I have to stretch 5 bales of hay because it's been too wet to get my new stuff delivered. If I run out, I'm sure friends will help. But, I have pastures full of grass. I hope they don't flood so the horses can eat during the days. It won't be too cold for them to get wet.

Re: home again home again
They spent the rainy day outside. It was about 20 degrees cooler than yesterday, and WET. But, the flooding hasn't come yet. So, out they went. Tonight's high tide and tomorrow's are supposed to bring road flooding. Looks like we're in town for the duration. Fortunately, the hurricane seems to be tracking farther east.

Crazy ponies! They were in during the heaviest rain, and then the wind started cranking up. Envoy went out and just started jumping straight up and down. Kina (who feels MUCH better after her chiro) started running and showing off her limp. Now, they seem settled and are munching. The rain is holding off for the moment. Thank goodness!

Re: home again home again
STILL rainy and even more windy. Fortunately, letting the horses out every day has calmed them down a bit. I guess they don't mind being wet since it isn't too cold yet. The wind still has Envoy a little excited. I could tell he walked all over his stall last night. It was a disaster today.
The rain seems to be letting up a little. Thank goodness we're getting nowhere near as much as NC and SC. We are typically flooded in the back, and the horses seem to be enjoying their pond. Poor Casper's tree might not make it. I think its roots might be compromised by salt water.

I hope that tree makes it....
Glad to hear you aren't getting flooded like I saw NC on tv this morning.

Nope. We're fine. There are a few leaves left on the tree. I think most got blown off in the winds. The sun actually came out today. The horses show no intention of coming in.

If the sun came out here I wouldn't want to be inside either. Enjoy the sunny nice weather while you can.

Re: home again home again
The horses love the new hay. The company swept the loose stuff off the truck bed (BIG delivery truck). There was enough for a couple servings in the stalls. The horses thought they had hit the jackpot. They might be a little disappointed that they have 2 and 1/2 bales of the old stuff left. They are still eating grass most of the time. I'm trying not to feed a lot of hay until November. I don't want to buy more before spring. The last load (30 bales) I bought in April and just didn't feed much at all during the summer.
