Re: home again home again
Lots of melting today, but it was still cold for the horses because of the snow. Tomorrow should be a good air-out day. We'll be back to mud since it's supposed to be warmer and warmer as the weekend goes.

Still bitterly cold here, the Rodent Patrol's water bowl was frozen solid this morning.

Small bowls freeze so quickly.
Today was warming up. I saw 50 degrees on the barn thermometer. Horses are happily naked and muddy. I will unplug the trough tomorrow. It's supposed to get cold again tonight. It's sad that they don't make warmers for kitty water bowls.

I think they do, still it's no big deal. I put out a fresh bowl about eight in the morning.

Re: home again home again
I have two appointments to looks at 4 different horses. Three are Arabians and one is a TB. All are trained and kid-safe, so they will make good adult fun ponies. My weekends will be tiring, but exciting. I need to stop feeling like if I do not choose one, I've hurt its feelings.

Re: home again home again
Mud mud MUD! I got both feet stuck in deep, sucking mud near the fence. The horses had been hanging out there in yesterday's pouring rain. Today, it's a sea. I am going to move them to the big pasture on Friday. They'll stay there until the grass gets established in the front pasture or until the flooding recedes in the back.

Cool.........I hope you pick an Arabian. Maybe it will be somewhat like Sabi in intelligence and personality, huh?

I'm trying to keep an open mind, but I am kind of addicted to the Arabians.

Re: home again home again
Spring must be coming. The horses are starting to shed, and they are itchy. You should see Envoy. He is covered ears to tail in mud because he had a nice roll to get the itchies off. I didn't clean him tonight because the mud was too wet to brush off. I'll handle that in the morning, and it is supposed to be warmer and rainy tomorrow afternoon. Sounds like pony shower time to me.

Well, that was a waste of time and energy. I brushed and BOTH horses went out and rolled in the muck. I might as well give up. Tomorrow is supposed to be in the 70s with steady rain. They'll either be dirtier or cleaner when they come in.

I won't laugh. Okay maybe a little bit go get a glass of wine and say Dog Food, I'm going to make you dog food and eat the first can. And we all know what a lie that is.

No steady rain (and I'm pretty thankful for that). Looks like more brushing and sheets tomorrow. Possible rain and in the 40s. Spring was nice while it was here. Back to February. Sigh.

Re: home again home again
Here too. Gray, drizzle, sleet, wet, wet, wet. I hope this stops soon. I am sick to death of wet right now. The grass is starting to turn green, but I can't enjoy it because the ground is too soft. Crazy. The horses are wading knee deep to eat the grass that's growing under the flood.
My farrier sent me a message today about an Arabian lesson horse who is looking for a free lease home. The trainer needs to downsize, and the horse is supposedly really nice. I told the farrier to give her my number. I go to look at a mare for sale in MD on Sunday, and then maybe to see the free lease gelding.

I don't think my feet will ever get warm.
Keep me posted about the horses. Does the farrier know the gelding?

He does. Says he's a sweet boy and seems healthy. Good feet. Not sure of age, but knows he's kid safe. Sounds like a sweetie. I haven't heard from the trainer yet, so I don't know what's up. Planning on visiting the mare this weekend if the weather up there holds. It's supposed to rain here again (grump grumble).

Re: home again home again
Sleet and snow predicted for Saturday up there. We have our fingers crossed that it's just a light dusting of snow since Sunday is supposed to be in the 40s and sunny. Maybe it won't be a swamp. I don't have high hopes. February is such a dreary month.
It was WARM today - in the 60s. The horses are on top of a couple dirt hills I have in the back. They can get out of the mud and wet. I'm letting them enjoy it for a while tonight. They'll come in late for supper and hay.

Re: home again home again
Yup. No pony visits. Now, they're predicting 4 inches of snow after soaking rains up there. Here, we're just getting cold rain. I'm SO ready for this crap to go away.
I put the horses into the big pasture today. 1/3 of it is under water, but there is green grass poking up around the edges of the water. They seemed to enjoy the drier area and ran around like goofs. I'm hoping I can train them to come to the gate on the road so they don't have to squash through the back yard. Tonight was a fail on that front.

COLD rain this afternoon. The morning started beautiful, but now it's just cold and rainy. The horses had sheets on, so they were miserable but not cold. They came in early and are munching hay. I hope the forecast for 5 dry days holds. We're soaked beyond belief.

We are dryer than a two thousand year old mummy. The compost pile is not cooking and it's been to cold to dump the ice from the salad bar on it.

Re: home again home again
Envoy will have a buddy in a few weeks. I met Lu through my farrier, who is also Lu's. I haven't heard back from his owner yet, but he's local, so we're in no big rush. His owner's son is now into Quarter Horses (like his mom is), so Lu is looking for a home that loves Arabians.
Lu is a year or so older than Envoy, and is a retired endurance horse. He is fearless, kid safe, and really a sweetheart. I will also be going to look at a nice mare in MD if the weather ever cooperates. I can take 2, so if she is perfect too, I will be back to three horses.
