Bingo's Progress
I am a bit worried about Bingo. I woke up this morning to find some blood where he usually sleeps. He has had a persistent nose discharge for months, and we think it's a low level infection from his tumor. We treat off/on with antibiotics, but are worried about making the bacteria resistant. Last night, he had a little nose bleed, and this morning there was a noticeable blood spot on his bed. It obviously had stopped because he isn't bleeding now, but I am wondering if this is the beginning of hemorrhaging. His energy is a little low, but that might be the dreary cool weather. He's always been very sensitive to the weather. No matter what, we're going to love on him and go on as normally as possible. I am really hoping he can wait to ask for relief until after the gathering restrictions are lifted. I don't want to put the vets into a bad position, and I want to be with him at the time.

Such a tough spot to be in, especially with the virus going around and businesses closed.

Re: Bingo's Progress
Fortunately, our vet is open for animals who are sick or need their shots. Regular appointments are being delayed, but things like this are a reason to do their new drive-in service. They might let me call in for an antibiotic since they know his status and don't really need to check symptoms unless they think this progress requires it. We are treating him medically to keep him comfortable until the time comes. So far... So good...

At least you are able to keep Bingo comfortable for the time being.

Re: Bingo's Progress
Good news! His vet called (on his day off), and asked some questions about the symptoms. He says that it sounds like it might just be the infection that seems to come up every couple months. It is definitely the tumor progressing, but this doesn't sound untreatable. So, we picked up a month's worth of antibiotics. We will give 2 weeks worth and check progress. If he needs more, we'll do 2 more weeks. If he doesn't, we have another round for next time.

Bingo is doing much better. The bleeding has stopped. Now, we're waiting to see if the swelling between his eyes goes down. One more week of antibiotics for the regular course and more if needed... Fingers crossed for quick progress now.

He says thanks. He is continuing to improve. The swelling isn't gone, but it's changing shape. I expect it to open up and drain soon. Icky but good.

Re: Bingo's Progress
Well... He was doing great after 2 weeks of antibiotics, so we stopped giving them. Last night, his lump got surprisingly bigger very fast, and his nose bleeds started again, so we started the pills again. I think we hadn't quite kicked the infection. I also think the tumor is going into a new place. It is expected.
Other than that, though, he seems ok. He doesn't have as much energy as yesterday, but that too is expected. He is happy about his food, and is enjoying a nice morning nap in the sun and warm air. I have a feeling he'll be back on his paws by Monday. 2 more weeks of pills might kick this thing. (fingers crossed!!)

Re: Bingo's Progress
Today there has been a miraculous turnaround. His lump opened and drained a bit. Not as much as I expected, but any is good. The nose bleeds are stopping, and he has much more energy. He is sleeping comfortably, and we got to open the windows because he can breathe well enough now that I wasn't worried about it being a bit warmer.

Re: Bingo's Progress
Bingo got to go to play care for the first time in 2.5 months. He was SO excited. His infection has cleared up, so he has lots of energy. He is also getting a bath and his nails trimmed, AND he's getting some booster shots. I will pick up his regular meds when we get him this afternoon. It's going to kill the wallet (again), but I am so happy that the doggie is back to a routine.

It helps to have a happy Bingo. Unfortunately, vet bills don't come cheap.

I know it's good to have a way let a dog release all the energy.

He has been running around a lot with the really nice weather. Tomorrow is going to be a preview of summer with heat. He doesn't handle the heat well, so he will probably spend most of the day inside under the fan in the living room. Looks like early walks for us.

Re: Bingo's Progress
Bingo is back on his antibiotics. He started getting a stuffy nose and sneezing a lot. We figure it's the sinusitis that shows up when he has an infection flare up. The vet says since we caught it early this time, we should only need to do 2 weeks. There are refills if needed though. I'm hoping it clears up for another couple months. He was so happy once the bad infection got cleared up.

Re: Bingo's Progress
He seems fine but stuffy. The tumor gives infections a perfect place to start up, so the vet says he doesn't need to come in for an exam. We just call when he gets symptoms. He goes in every 3 or 4 months for various things, so they check him over like any old dog. And, his play is right next door, so if anything happens, he can just walk down the hall to see the doctor.

Re: Bingo's Progress
We're on another round of antibiotics. We caught this one early, so there's nothing to report really. He is lying around on top of the AC vent while the heat outside gets crazy. He goes out early for a potty break and then stays inside until about 9 PM. Silly dog.

Re: Bingo's Progress
Poor Bingo. He has a huge abscess. He went to the vet today, but it isn't ready to rupture, so they wanted to wait to lance it since it will require sedation to do that. We were there late in the afternoon, and they like to keep senior dogs for a while after they're sedated just to be sure things went ok. So, he is once again on antibiotics, and if the abscess is still huge on Monday, we go back for lancing. At least he ate all his supper today.

And we're off to the vet tomorrow. It's still really big, and it seems like his mouth hurts. More reports after things get looked at tomorrow.

Re: Bingo's Progress
It is not an abscess. It is basically the tumor eating at his bones. He got some stuff drained, but he is still not back to normal. I think we are on the watch for when he starts to feel really bad. He isn't eating well, which is a sign. But, he is still happy to bounce around and is eager to eat treats. So, we're keeping him as comfortable as possible for as long as possible.
