No, I'm not joking either. The following is a link to the story about the huge litter.

OMG! The owner did a heroic job keeping them all alive and well. I hope they all find good homes; she sounds determinded about that, thank goodness. Personally, I think it's time to snip momdog. The puppies are utterly gorgeous and Ridgebacks are one of my favorite dogs, but I think she's done her part for the breed!

I read about this dog this morning, and I'm very glad her peoples were more than willing to take time off from work and help her raise all these little ones. I agree, momma had done more than enough to perpetuate her breed. 17 children is a lot to handle, I can't even imagine being under the puppy pile getting smothered in kisses..............

There was a small article in today's paper that said that the owner is going to have Mommy dog get fixed. She does not want to risk her life with another pregnancy.

very wise woman....of course it would have been smarter before the pooch had to risk her life reproducing. but at least the lady has learned from the experience.

I'm glad the owner will get the dog spayed. This is somewhat off topic, but my parents two main requirements for adoptions is spay/neuter and shots. If the cat isn't already spay/neuter, it will be. They have no interest in breeding. They also have no interest in having the cats in shows either.
