The prodigal son returns
Yesterday afternoon when we were feeding everyone, we discovered that our cat Jerry was nowhere to be found. He must have slipped out some time during the day. We spent the evening going out looking for him, calling him, putting out "lost cat" notices online, and generally panicking. Kevin went out at 2:00 A.M. for another search. He got an answering mew when he looked in the garage, having been led there by Greymalkin, a neighborhood cat that we feed every day. Jerry was willing to talk to us, but was too scared to come to us. He led us on a merry chase through all the JUNK in our garage, until he finally allowed me to approach him and pick him up. We brought him in and fed him a special late dinner--no fatted calf, but lots of canned food, then he ran to the bedroom where he sleeps with his brother and sisters and asked to go in. Everyone was very relieved and very happy that what was lost was returned. (Jerry is in the upper right)

Oh man, gbste - Jerry must have given all of you the frights! I hope you gave him a lot of hugs - or is he not a kitty that likes to be hugged?

Jerry likes hugs very much, although he's much too exhausted for affection today. He hasn't come out of the kitty bedroom yet. We had to go in to fuss over him this morning. He must have been awake the whole time he was outside, and cowering in fear takes a surprizing amount of energy.

Our garage is ancient and has a car door that doesn't close all the way, so he was able to get in there. It's a detached garage.

Re: The prodigal son returns
Sounds to me like Jerry may have had his own fright at some point on his unauthorised jaunt. I'm infinitely grateful that, whatever happened to him on his day off, he found his way back home to be rescued. Let him sleep it off, but I would check him carefully for wounds once he's calm.

Oh man! What a scare. That sounds like when Gray Kitty ran out while we were on vacation, and he got stuck under the house in a blizzard. He slept for days and didn't go back outside for weeks. He's an inside/outside guy, so that was quite a scare for him.
I am SO glad Jerry is home safe and sound. Hugs from all of us here.

Glad he's home safe & sound... I absolutely HATE when things like this happen. It makes me so frantic.

Is Jerry normally a skittish cat?

Jerry normally is a very calm and loving kitty. He loves attention, and actually likes belly rubs, and not the usual cat "rub my tummy" fakeout either. He's pretty much back to his old self today. He just got frightened out there in the wild world.

I'm also glad that Jerry is home, safe, and unhurt after his lil unscheduled adventure. Silly boy.
