Re: Severe Weather Check-In
Nature has not only been sprinkling on us but also trying to drown us from the skies lately..............

From the looks of the storm on the online radar map this one promises to be a really bad one!

Re: Severe Weather Check-In
lk that musta been one of the days when i didn't turn on a channel with news cuz i didn't know there had been a tornado! i know they're pretty rare in the NYC area! even here we tend to get more strong winds and things than a real tornado. (but i am glad i'm in the basement:) )

Re: Severe Weather Check-In
i think we got plenty of rain in June so not so much in July. i liked the year where it rained a couple times every week but it was either just for a minute or two during the day or only at night so people got to enjoy the sun but the farmers got rain!

AUNTIE EM!!!
Speaking of the midwest, we're going to have two days of hurricane 3 force winds, and it's started here already. Got to work fine, and battoned down the hatches at home, so hopefully all my stuff will not blow away. There's a tornado watch in effect for the morning too. Hope everyone around this area stays safe!
Re: Severe Weather Check-In
I didn't get any sleep at all last night for all the wind, lightening, thunder, and pounding rain. The gutters moaned and howled, the roof and walls were rippling, the window was being pounded something fierce with rain, and the lightening and thunder shook the place. We had a wind gust last night measured about 65mph! Wind about knocked me over this morning and it was 63 out there. Stop lights were swaying in the wind like they were about to snap off. Highschool was cancelled due to no electricity, yet the gradeschool and middleschool had classes today. Limbs down everywhere. Still gloomy out there, temps are dropping. It's 52 out there now as I type this.
More of the same if predicted for tonight and tomorrow. We'll be lucky to break 45 as a high temp on Thursday. Good thing I dug out the winter clothes yesterday, I'm going to need them.

Good grief Fif, if I didn't know better I would say that was
part of the storm that hit East Texas. It was really bad about
a hundred or so miles east of here.

Re: Severe Weather Check-In
There might be power outages here from the same storm system. This morning, I was in an windowless area of an building where I can't hear tornado sirens, let any other sound that is coming from outside.

Re: Severe Weather Check-In
I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't a part of that storm moved north Sue.
There were tornadoes about 30-50 miles from here. Lots of wind damage on the tv too, my immediate area escaped a lot of that. The wind is still howling but the rain has stopped. Weatherman said we got a bit of hail Monday night too. We still have a high wind advisory going until late tomorrow.

Re: Severe Weather Check-In
If possible, I think this afternoon has turned windier than it was yesterday! This morning was a little less so, but now it's howling! We had a man at work knocked over by the wind and he had to have stitches, so my boss and I braced ourselves as we walked out the door - and it still hit us like a punch. Had to stop, plant my feet, brace again and then move forward toward the car. As I sat at a stop light (one of those suspended from wires that cross the intersection), they were bobbing and swooping around so much that it almost made you feel a little dizzy. Kind of like those swirling dream sequences you see in movies where things get stretched and twisted every which way! Very unnerving.
Re: Severe Weather Check-In
High winds like that can be unsettling. At least to me,
it's the moaning sound that often accompanies a high wind.

Re: Severe Weather Check-In
I was clinging for dear life to the lightpole at work yesterday afternoon, and had my arm against it to keep my face from smashing into it when the wind shifted. I was very nearly knocked over at least a dozen times trying to walk home.............and I was really leaning into the wind to keep from getting knocked over. The speed limit sign on my corner got uprooted out of the ground by the wind. I did get some sleep last night as I think I passed out from sheer exhaustion.

Re: Severe Weather Check-In
we got rain today...all day...flooded over big parts of the street. seemed to be coming from three directions at once (so i got soaked from all angles...gave up on the umbrella cuz it kept blowing itside inside out). it would have been so much nicer if it were snow....but at least we're not quite flooded out yet. (or snowed in....i don't get rain in dec..makes no sense in the north!)
Sue....this rain was almost TX Torrential;)

Re: Severe Weather Check-In
I'm fine here. Since I live nowhere near Lake Michigan, I don't experience lake effect snow. It started to snow late morning and stopped snowing late afternoon. There may be a few inches of snow here. I don't know how bad the roads are and there is a winter weather advisory here through sometime tomorrow.

Re: Severe Weather Check-In
We're OK here - though I didn't leave the house today. I don't know what I did, but my sciatica has kicked into high gear - at least I think it's sciatica. I get it once in awhile, where I experience nagging pain down one leg or the other - and this one is different that it's not traveling pain - it's a stabbing pain. I had no intention of going out in the horrible winds we had anyway, but with that backache there's no way I'm going to try to navigate icy sidewalks. I'm hunkering down and will medicate myself in hopes that I can get to work tomorrow, but no promises.
Re: Severe Weather Check-In
Glad to hear that y'all are ok. Despite soakings etc.
Just don't take a chill y'hear.

Re: Severe Weather Check-In
Thanks for bumping up this topic, Sue. I've been worrying about the midwest contingent since I heard about the bodacious blizzard forecast. I know Fiff doesn't often get to a computer over the weekends, and I surely hope she won't have crossing guard duty in weather this bad.
Jeepers, it's darned cold here in the southland. I can only imagine how frigid you northern kids must be right now!

Re: Severe Weather Check-In
Had to work in -15 windchill this morning. Had whiteout conditions yesterday with 35-40mph winds, gusts of 50! What a day to walk to sis' for a turkey dinner, but got a ride home. We got about 8 inches of snow but some of the drifts were impressive enough. Thank heavens the really heavy snowfall went elsewhere!

Re: Severe Weather Check-In
It's possible that we got more snow that expected. No, we didn't get 2-3 feet of snow here. Northern Indiana like Gary and South Bend maybe since they're close to Lake Michigan.

Re: Severe Weather Check-In
Our severe weather is the dangerous wind chill. But more snow is on the way so our roads will be a lot of fun to drive on.
