Argo & Lyra's 3rd Birthday
Today is Argo & Lyra's 3rd birthday. Where does the time go? I opened up all the windows today, so they could sit and take in the beautiful fresh air while we were at work, read them their birthday card from their friend Evangelina, gave them two nice, fresh bully sticks for something to chew on, and after work, we'll take them for a good long walk to the p-a-r-k. That sounds like a good doggy birthday, don't you think?

Sounds like a great doggie birthday to me! Has it really been 3 years? Sure doesn't seem like it was that long ago you brought them home as tiny pups...........

Well, we didn't bring them home until they were 10 weeks old, and that was on November 3rd of 2008, but yesterday was their real birthday. I always wonder what happened to the other sibling. They were a litter of three.

Would you be able to ask the breeder (or owner of their Mom, etc.) what happened to the third sibling

Re: Argo & Lyra's 3rd Birthday
You know, we haven't heard anything from the breeder in a long time. I know Wesley meant to ask her about the third pup - whom we never saw. The breeder was quite an elderly lady (she had been breeding and showing Papillons for 50 years when we got ours), so I have no way of knowing if she's still doing it or even if she's still with us. I know her husband was not well when we got our pups - he was 90 at the time. On a side note, Argo and Lyra have always responded very well to my mom, who is also elderly. I've always wondered if there is something about an elderly lady's voice that reminded them of their breeder, because the response was immediate and very favorable toward Mom. I have several photos of them as young pups climbing all over her! It was so cute.
Re: Argo & Lyra's 3rd Birthday
That type of interaction makes it seem likely that the breeders cared a great deal for the pups and thusly(sp?) would have done everything in their power to find the third one a good home
Also 50 years is a really long time to be doing any one thing, let alone be a Papillon breeder. I thought that breed was a newer one!

Oh no - the Papillon is a very old breed. Marie Antoinette had one that she supposedly handed to executioner as she approached her doom. There are many paintings with Papillons in them. The ears were mainly down, and not erect the way they are today. That type of Pap is known as a Phalene, meaning "moth" because the ears look more like a moth's as opposed to the regular Papillon's erect ears, which favor butterfly wings. Papillon means "butterfly" in French.
