lest we forget
and think that today is National BBQ day... Someone died so we could have beautiful days like today.
I am not a huge flag hugger or artificial patriot, but I do remember that someone sacrificed, and he/she might be my neighbor. Hug your furkids and real kids, and offer a salute to the people who did give for us.

Yes, my grandpa didn't die for it but he fought for 3 years overseas for our freedom. To this day he refuses to talk about it at all.

My dad fought in WWII and Korea, and organizes and participates in a memorial day Parade every year.
No video yet of this year's parade, but the following is last year's parade. Mu\y dad is the portly man in a uniform (with beard) swinging his cane in time to the music

That's really cool, LK. My dad is a Vietnam vet who, fortunately, came home with no physical damage. He's happily retired from both the military and his after-military careers. My husband did 20 years on submarines. Thank God, all my family came home from their conflicts. I do value Memorial Day as a way to thank the families who were not so fortunate.

I remember seeing that video last year, LK. It's neat that you can see it whenever you want to! My dad passed over 15 years ago. He was also a WWII vet, and had a brother who was a tailgunner, and as with many tailgunners, he never made it home from Europe.
Re: lest we forget
it's a treat watching the video. I don't know if anyone posted one this year but my dad sent me the club house newsletter from the place he lives and it's full of pictures and news about the parade and ceremony
