HAVE A GOOD LABOR DAY WEEKEND!
Since the library is closed on Monday, just wanted to wish everybody a good, fun Labor Day weekend! Mine will be if it's not too rainy.

Re: HAVE A GOOD LABOR DAY WEEKEND!
Thanks, Fiff. Mine has been spent being pretty lazy. We did a lot of heavy yard work yesterday. Today is rest and watch baseball day. The animals are all relaxing as much as possible through some big thunderstorms.

Re: HAVE A GOOD LABOR DAY WEEKEND!
Spent mine hemming up 3 pairs of jeans...by hand...since the side seams were too thick for my sewing machine to handle. Picture me with sewing needle in one hand, pliers to pull it through the fabric in the other. Got it done though but my hands hurt the rest of the night. Otherwise didn't do much beyond buy litter for Bij, make a couple ice packs, and catch up on clearing out excess paper in the apartment.

Re: HAVE A GOOD LABOR DAY WEEKEND!
Hope everyone here had a nice holiday weekend. I cooked out a turkey that I had in the freezer, since I'm trying to purge the contents, and fed the neighbors, who have been helping me by mowing the lawn, sending over food on occasion, etc. since Wesley left for AZ.
Yesterday, I spent laboring a little, because I have a showing on the house today and an open house this coming weekend.

I hope the house stuff goes well and you move the house quickly (and profitably).

Re: HAVE A GOOD LABOR DAY WEEKEND!
Thanks! A couple of people have complained about the fact that it's not an "open floor plan" but 21 years ago, homes weren't built that way. They need to direct people to newer homes if that's a priority, because there's nothing I can do about that.
Re: HAVE A GOOD LABOR DAY WEEKEND!
Humph! Open floor plan = huge energy bills. I think new houses with the huge atria as entrances and gigantic rooms always look cluttered and disorganized unless you're at one of those "Parade of Homes" events. I'd much rather have a well-built, cozy house. (Mine is a 1902 farm house with lots of doorways so the wood stove heat would stay in the rooms!)

Re: HAVE A GOOD LABOR DAY WEEKEND!
Exactly, Becky! I really like my floor plan. It has worked well for us. Our new one has an open kitchen to the family room, but I would have been fine without that. I may even add some sort of Soji screen to define the spaces a little better. Like this maybe...
Re: HAVE A GOOD LABOR DAY WEEKEND!
I like that. It looks like you could open it up for parties or make it small for family time. I also like the kitchen/family room idea. That isn't TOO open. My kitchen now is so tiny that 2 people are smashed in there. I'd like to take down a wall between it and the living room so we had something like that.

Re: HAVE A GOOD LABOR DAY WEEKEND!
One selling point is that most interior walls can be removed to 'open up the space'. Prospective buyers can customize that better than finding one already done. Then the open space isn't too big or too small to suit. Maybe your realtor needs to bring up that fact Bobbie?
What I can see of the soji screened off room.....it's about as big as my entire apartment. It would fit into that one room easily.

I keep thinking I might make my kitchen like a European one. Right now, I have a giant fridge. If I move that and put in a mini fridge, and some Ikea cabinets, maybe the tiny space would be more useful.

Re: HAVE A GOOD LABOR DAY WEEKEND!
Ours is huge. I love it, but it is a bit much for a tiny kitchen. (I wish I had the capital available to make a bigger kitchen. ) I recommend the French door fridge with the freezer on the bottom. I can put two tons of stuff in there I think.

Re: HAVE A GOOD LABOR DAY WEEKEND!
Another good point for that kind of fridge is that bottom freezers cost less to run that a top freezer model. Besides, you get in the fridge a lot more often than the freezer so having the fridge on top makes a lot more sense.

Re: HAVE A GOOD LABOR DAY WEEKEND!
We got a French door bottom freezer fridge for our new house (and I have one in this house too). I much prefer them to the top or side-by-side models.
Re: HAVE A GOOD LABOR DAY WEEKEND!
The only drawback is the mystery frozen brick at the bottom of the freezer. I always find some meat that I forgot about, and am afraid to thaw because it might come to life and be angry.
