Re: home again home again
The farrier came yesterday. I had to be at work, but he's fine doing them without me here - I just leave a check. It was Ruby's first time meeting him. She decided to see if she could get away with pretending to be scared of the fans, but he said she settled right down when he laughed at her. She's a character. I just wish she hadn't broken her safety halter strap. Silly girl.

Ruby saw many scary things today. We went a new way from the house, and she was on edge. She let me take her past what she thought was frightening (not sure why), and then I turned her around. Horses seem to do better if you push them just a little. Then, when we were headed in her comfortable direction, we saw a BIKE. It's bike weekend in my county, and today was the only nice weather day. She didn't know what to make of it. She wasn't bad. She just stopped and her eyes got BIG. I got off and stood with her so the bike guy wouldn't get hurt if she blew. She didn't. She seemed to take it in stride. Next time, we'll stay mounted.

You are going to have a fun summer....trying to keep up riding all three horses. Glad they're doing so well together!

Lu made a great escape today. I didn't latch a pasture gate right, and both of us were at work all day. No pony escapes until we came home. Then, he decided to point out the mistake by snacking on back yard grass. He wasn't going anywhere. I think he was just laughing at me for doing something dumb. Good ponies to stay home with an invitation to go walkabout.

My neighbor's old horse escaped today. I was pulling the truck out of the driveway, and saw him moseying towards my house. He just came in the driveway and through the barn to visit my guys. The poor old thing is very thin and showing signs of neurologic problems. The neighbors are planning to put him down soon, so I think he came to say goodbye to Envoy. They've been neighbors for over 14 years.

Re: home again home again
When I was walking Bingo today, I saw some horse poo on the street. The piles were about a mile apart, so I thought someone had been out riding. Then, I noticed one in a side yard. Hmm... Someone's gone walkabout. I had a small moment of panic that maybe my guys had gotten out, but they were all safely in the pasture. I went back to snoop around, but I found nothing except telltale poop. I guess the horse (horses?) went home or got rounded up.

That must have been a heart stopping moment. I hope whoever it was is home safe.

All my neighbors' horses are in the pastures. No clue who left the clues or when they did it. But, it seems like everyone was home.

Re: home again home again
Got a short ride with Ruby before it got really hot and humid. The mosquitoes drained about a gallon of my blood and who knows how much of Ruby's. We went and chatted with the neighbor who had to put her horse down. She is very sad, but knows that she did the right thing. She seemed to enjoy meeting Ruby, and her other horses are not interested at all in their new neighbor.

Tell your neighbor how sorry I am to hear that. We know how she feels. Your head tells you the it was the right thing but the heart sometimes say otherwise. As for the mosquitoes, well so far we've been lucky here in Texas.

Re: home again home again
We had another ride today. The boys were enjoying the sun and lying down, so Ruby and I played again. More mosquitoes, but a nice quiet ride. We trotted a bit through the bad bug areas, but not much. I don't like trotting on the road because it's hard on feet and joints. But, Ruby seemed to enjoy it and be happy to get it away from the bugs. No riding tomorrow. The rain is pelting down and the yard is a pond. I don't think it's supposed to get much better tomorrow, although the downpours are supposed to stop, so maybe the standing water will go away.
