Cree's career
I figured I'd start a new topic since Cree no longer has his own little girl (unless I count as a little girl).
After the amazing weather the other day, we're drying up really well. Something tells me that the plants are starting to get thirsty. The puddles in the yard and pastures are going away much more quickly than they did just last week. Because it's so nice out, I am going to take Cree for another ride around the neighborhood. We will try to do the whole square (about 4.5 miles) with some walk and trot. I don't canter on pavement -- especially with aluminum shoes on the fronts. If all goes well, we'll go again tomorrow and then MAYBE take him to see Envoy at boarding school. My friend said she would like to go for a trail ride with him, and there's a beautiful state park right down the street from her house.

Re: Cree's career
Today's ride was GREAT. We went down roads we hadn't tried before. He whinnied at horses in the neighbor's pasture. It felt really funny, but he kept going right on past even though he wanted to go and sniff noses. (And that probably would have led to squealing.) We trotted a lot more than last time. No sign of lameness.

You count. That's great and the trail ride sounds like fun.

He's ready to go on bigger and better rides. The weather is not look like it's going to cooperate tomorrow, but maybe we'll dry out enough by Sunday.
Cree didn't seem like he was upset that I put his blanket on tonight. The horses are staying in, but it's supposed to be so wet and nasty that I tucked the kids in.

I don't think this weekend will be good for riding out. We'll probably dry out on the streets, but the wind and temperatures are not going to improve much. In the middle of next week, spring is going to try to come back, so we'll see what happens.
Cree was very happy to have his blanket after the rain stopped today. The wind was crazy, and it was cold. Winter isn't going quietly.

Re: Cree's career
A nice lady is coming to meet Cree on Wednesday. My vet knows her and put us in touch with each other, so I'm sure she's a good owner. She has an old, retired gelding whose companion passed away. She wants a horse she can trail ride and her grandkids can play with when they visit. I think Cree would enjoy that a lot. He would be living in Culpepper, VA, which is a really nice area right in the heart of horse country.

I hope it all works out for him. He deserves it.

Me too. I'll kinda miss the guy if he goes, but he does deserve a really good home. I really wish Williamsburg had worked out, but they didn't call me back before this lady called. If he can get a home with fewer horses, he'll get more attention. He does deserve it.

They love him! He was a real gentleman for them, and of course was a champ about everything. They want him ASAP, so he's getting his feet done on Tuesday and they're picking him up Wednesday morning. I'll be kind of sad to see him go, but they really will give him a better home. They've promised him a home for life, which is exactly what I want for him.

Re: Cree's career
I'm annoyed about trying to get his shots/Coggins records from Williamsburg. They said they'd release them, but I haven't seen anything yet. It was supposed to come in email. Sigh... There's always something.

ESH!! I hope you don't have to redo them. Can you get another copy from the vet?

I need Williamsburg to agree to release the records. Medical record protection extends to vets too.

Cree is going to boarding school today to take a short trail ride with Envoy. He's out eating hay right now, but he'll be excited soon.

Re: Cree's career
Well we tried. There were freaky things going on in the neighborhood. People were felling trees and someone was burning brush. Envoy was having no part of it. Cree was his reliable self and took very good care of my friend. We rode in the arena instead of facing the scary stuff. It was fun anyway, and my friend got to be on a horse for the first time in months. Overall, it was a grand success.

I agree with Envoy on that score. Still sounds like a good time was had by all.

Re: Cree's career
Cree was exhausted. He flopped down in his stall for a nap right after dinner. He's back to his same old self today, so no damage done. I got his Coggins and shot records today so the new owners can have them.

Re: Cree's career
Cree left for his new home this morning. The ladies were very nice, and were all about him traveling comfortably. He marched right on the trailer, and started to munch hay. He looked back when I yelled, "BYE QUEEE!"
The ladies called tonight. He settled right into the pasture, and is now in the barn eating hay and getting ready for a nap. He jumped over some logs when he found them in the pasture. The ladies are excited to ride him since his feet feel good enough to jump.
I miss the guy, but I'm so happy he found a good home.

Re: Cree's career
Cree's new mom called last night. He's settled right in, and was happily munching grass with his blanket on against the cold rain. He is shedding a lot, and his skin fungus that he got at his previous home is almost gone.
He is going to be a riding horse tomorrow when the weather is beautiful. His new mom asked a few questions about what he likes. I told her that he's such an agreeable guy that he likes to do just about anything, and he's absolutely brave. He will take good care of her.
