Re: Urban Wildlife
That's pretty neat. There is a huge rosemary bush here and one time there was a hawk on the ground hunting around it.

Wish I could've seen that, I've never seen a hawk splash around taking a bath either.

We have some hungry cabbage worms. I planted 4 cabbage plants, and the worms have chewed the leaves up. I took action today by putting on gloves, picking the worms off the plants, and putting a rosemary plant close by. (That's supposed to help chase them away.) Well... I put the little container with the plucked worms on the ground to run into the barn. When I came back, a bird was snacking at the "bird buffet." I don't know what kind it was because it took off too quickly.

I took Bingo out for an after dinner walk, and it was DARK. There is something huge in the woods down the street. We had our flashlight, but I couldn't tell what it was. I think it was a deer, but it sounded like a dinosaur. It is rut time, so the boys are probably fighting. Sounded scary though. Bingo and I turned around and went home.

Bucks can be aggressive when they're in rut. Good move.

Definitely.....they don't think straight at all this time of year. I avoid them if they're in the yard here. Not taking any chances.

There's definitely something weird down there. I tried to take Envoy down the street, and he put on the brakes in the same spot. I will have to walk it tomorrow to see what's up. Hopefully, it's not a bobcat. We get those every once in a while.

Re: Urban Wildlife
Our back pasture flood is receding as it usually does in the spring. But, it's still deep enough that we have ducks and (for the first time) Canada Geese. Momma and Papa Goose were looking for a nesting spot. I asked them not to build there because it is going to dry up, and their babies won't be able to learn about swimming. They took off honking. I don't know if they were saying thank you or cussing me out.

Probably cussing you out. They should be grateful though for the warning you gave them.

Re: Urban Wildlife
They are back. I haven't seen any sign of nesting, so I guess they are enjoying the pasture pond while it's here. If they do nest, the kids will just need to waddle across the other pasture to the old canal that serves as an outflow ditch from the road. It almost always has water.
Today's sighting was our eagle. I think he found a girl. There were two flying around above the big pasture.

We've had male robins here for the past month. Just today, I saw at least 15 of them all in one yard, waiting out the latest rainstorm.
They're really early this year!

We have a ton around here too. Recent arrivals. The goldfinches are molting and turning the most amazing yellow in patches. I can't wait until the other spring visitors stop in on their way north. I have all kinds of good seeds waiting for them.

Those finches should be heading up here in a few weeks then. They're always bright yellow and black when they get here. Then the hummers will arrive...

I read a report of hummingbird sightings in Lynchburg, VA. I need to get my feeders ready.

Really? Let me know when they're in your backyard......they generally show up about a month after that up here.

No sign yet. It's so windy that they're probably sheltering somewhere.

I don't blame them.....that wind has been wicked lately this spring! I can barely walk against that wind, can't imagine trying to fly against it.

I saw my first sighting yesterday, and one was perched on the feeder drinking today. Here they are!

We have a sparrow bird's nest! It is outside the back entrance on the alarm box right over the door. I don't know if there are eggs there yet....I hope so!
