Kina's news
The farrier came today, and poor Kina cannot lift her feet. I've been avoiding lifting them because I normally don't have someone to spot me in case she loses her balance. She just can't lift them high enough to be trimmed/shod. So, it's the terrible time I need to make the big decision. I'm not upset by this. She has been a wonderful horse, and recently she's been lying down a lot and not eating as much. I think she's telling me it's time. I've gotten in touch with the vet, and I'm waiting to see when. I'm sad, but in a way I'm relieved too. I don't have to worry about her in the depths of winter.

Re: Kina's news
This is the hardest part of any pet owner's life. It is a very brave and unselfish thing to do. We all understand.
It has been over three years since I said goodbye to Bullet.

Re: Kina's news
Envoy has been keeping close to her. Sometimes it looks like he's helping to hold her up. I think he knows. He's always been good with the old and sick horses. He's a nurse at heart.
I have a bunch of friends who are helping too. My vet is going to let one of her broodmares keep Envoy company for the winter. Another friend is letting him stay at her place until vet and I can coordinate the meet up. And yet another friend is coming to bury Kina. It's so good to have such a support system.

You and Envoy are incredible. I don't know what else to say. Antonio sends head butts and purrs.

So will I. It doesn't matter if you expect it in advance or not, it's always hard to say goodbye.

Re: Kina's news
It's all done. She was very ready, but it's still hard to watch a horse go down. She did that easy, and just basically sat first and drooped to the ground. But, it's just hard. I stroked her neck until all the nervous reactions stopped, and I think she knew while she faded. I am very sad, but I know it was best.
My wonderful vet and my friend who buried her sat with me afterwards and drank a glass of wine in the wonderful girl's honor.
