Finished with Haiti. Did you know that in 1859 it was the wealthiest, island in the caribbean. Of course it was controlled by a relative few White french plantation owners, with a middle class of "people of color' or mixed bloods who serves as overseers, ran the shops, etc, and the vast majority were black slaves. The slave revolt virtually wiped out all the upper and middle classes. and haiti has never been able to recover.
Now on to 1865 jamaica. Looks like the British were being just as stupid as the french were

Finished 'Changes' (book 12 in the Dresden Files), and absolutely loved it. The interplay amongst the characters is as good as it ever was and Harry's dog, Mouse, is terrific. Am now starting on a Dresden book of short stories called 'Side Jobs'.
The next in the Dresden Files series doesn't come out over here until July but the local book shop are letting you pre-order it in hardback for half price. Guess what I just ordered?

I already read Side Jobs and I won't ruin it. I did pre-order the next Dresden book too. I started Amityville Horror today. It may be one of those books where I can take so much in one setting.

I couldn't read the last story in Side Jobs until I read Changes. Now the joy of more Dresden stories is mine.

No not yet. I haven't seen them in the book store, but I'm sure I can order them.
Still niggles that on at least two occassions Harry has said 'I don't do hats', yet on the book covers there he is in a hat. Oh Mr Butcher have a word with the illustrator pleeeaaasssee.

Now that you have mentioned it, I have noticed on the covers that Harry wears a hat, but I never paid close attention while reading that he didn't wear a hat.
