Re: Road Trip
where i grew up one of my bedroom windows got the sunrise and the window at the end of the hall was where i watched the sun go down. it was good flat farmland so i could always tell my direction. haven't been the same since!

Light is orangic and changes. People in small towns and
the country understand it. The light in Kentucky is different
than in Texas. Jimmy Buffet summed it up with changes in
latitude changes in attitude. In the this case it's changes in
longitude and latitude. Changes with those degrees. Pollutions
has a lot to do with it but where you are and where the und is
has even more.

I'm hoping to see that planet tonight, I'm even setting my alarm clock so I can go out and look. Just hope it isn't raining or cloudy or I won't be able to see a thing.

Re: Road Trip
I'm bringing this topic up since I just returned from a road trip
last night. The reason for the road trip was my cousin who lived in
Indianapolis died Monday the 11th. I flew to Kentucky on the 13th and
another cousin and I drove to Indianapolis for the funeral.
I will go into more detail later and I know Antonio wants to say something
in his topic.

So am I. I know how it feels, the only time I really see any of my extended family is at funerals.

We're trying to change that. I made the mistake of believing the five
day forecast when I packed. Did I get a shock . Still it was fun
even when the weather was bad I was able to get on do things.

I know what you mean LK, it was almost $4.00 a gallon in Kentucky.
My cousin's wife was kind enough to lend me her car to run around in.
I put gas in it when I was finished OUCH!!!!!

Re: Road Trip
they were talking on the news yesterday that gas in NJ is up like $1.50more than it was this time last year. i wonder if they raise it for easter like they do the summer holidays, thanksgiving and christmas? if so...last year at this time the prices would have dipped because easter was much earlier.
as bad as it is, talk to someone who was old enough to drive during the depression and hear the stories about gas rationing. I'm always wondering what americans would do if they went back that way and you had to walk, skate, bike or scooter everywhere!

Re: Road Trip
Live might actually improve somewhat. Frankfort where my cousin lives
I don't think has any public transportation and to get from Lexington to
Frankfort you have to ride Grayhound or whatever it is these days.
Still it was a nice visit and I'm just getting around to downloading my pictures
or at least the ones I want to download. Historic downtown Frankfort was great for
walking and they have some wonderful shops.

Re: Road Trip
I managed to find $3.89 last week, the tank wasn't completely empty, and yet it still took $60 to fill my lil car. Now it's $3.99 for the cheapest gas here............higher than the national average according to the newsman on tv.

Re: Road Trip
Been meaning to bring this to the fore when I got back from Kentucky.
It was a nice trip but not as much fun as in past trips. Still it was great to see
my brother, along with my cousin and his wife.
My cousins son was getting married for the third time. Yeah, I know I don't want to go
into it too. The venue for the wedding was lovely and it was outside. I didn't get as many photo
ops as I normally do. Kentucky is some ways the same and in others very different. For those you
on FB I've posted some pictures of a rainbow that we saw.

Re: Road Trip
Good thing you got to go now and not later in the summer, the gas is cheaper than it will be. Even if you took a bus or flew the price is cheaper now that they charge fuel surcharged on the price of a ticket.
It's $3.79/gallon here today. Won't stay there for long, Memorial Day is coming and they always jack it way up for the holidays...and keep it there or higher for the summer.

Re: Road Trip
I'm off on my road trip next week, after taking a break last year, we are going back to Michigan. This year besides my friend Lois, who is the driver, we will have our other roommate on the trip as well, and possible a friend of hers who wants to make the trip this year and room with us, so it will be a little more crowded (luckily my friend has a van) but I won't be so anxious not to fall asleep with others in the car, leaving on the 24th and back on the 30th. I don't know if I will have much internet access during the trip

Re: Road Trip
I'll try but don't know how much internet access I can get. I remember that the hotel had some computers set up for the net and emails two years ago, but they've changed hands and I don't know if they still have them.
ArniGirl, If you remember when you came to see me there it was Holiday Inn, was baught by Causebay and now is a best Western. I think all the hotels in that stretch of the road have changed hands

Re: Road Trip
You never know. These days the big chains offer free wi-fi as a matter of course; maybe the new owners will have all that in place.
Whatever happens, I hope you have a great trip!

Re: Road Trip
I've stayed in a few Best Western properties in the last couple years. They all had free wi-fi. Since I bring my computer with me, I didn't check to see if they had a machine set up, but the Comfort Inn I stayed in last year for the hurricane had one right in the lobby. I think it's a matter of course for the big hotel chains.
Have fun on your trip whether or not you have network access. Fun is far more important than the Internet!
