Re: LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERY DAY
Fif - you simply take an ear of corn, husks and silks still intact, and put it in the microwave for 4 minutes on high (8 minutes for 2 ears). Take it out of the microwave with a hot pad or glove, and cut off the stem end, but make sure you're cutting off not only the stem, but maybe the first row or so of kernels so that any connection of the leaves to the corn has been cut. That's a little hard to explain without a visual...
Once it's been cut, you pick up the ear of corn by the top (the end with the silks) with the hot pad and shake it in a downward motion (kind of like when you're trying to get ketchup out of a bottle), to shake the corn out of the cut end. It takes a couple of hard shakes, and the corn should slip out of the husk easily, and you'll be left with the husk and silk intact to toss in the trash!

It does sound good, and easy too.
I learned in Thursday's newspaper that it cost $1300 to clean up the garbage mess at my complex.

Re: LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERY DAY
The village is having to put a lein on the property as that's the only way they'll ever see that money. I wish they'd eminent domain my propertys' owner out and take it over and run it themselves. That way it won't be trashed (literally) and stuff would get fixed up to code without the tenants having to move out onto the streets.

In this situation, is there any possibility of any legal actions that the tenants can take to get anything accomplished?

Not that I'm aware of. All of us here are very low income, so even pooling our money we couldn't get a lawyer. We sure couldn't afford to buy the place either. So far we've only been able to afford 4 of those tall black garbage cans on wheels for the entire complex. Not nearly enough to do the job of holding a weeks' worth of trash from this place.

Next time you in the library check the internet for a tenents rights group and/or legal
aid.

There's gotta be a lawyer out there somewhere that will take the case pro bono...

Well, I just found the TV one last week, and the birthday cake a couple of weeks ago, but the squirrel and the Pepsi drinker came around the time of all the dogs and cats. The squirrel is for Lyra.

Re: LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERY DAY
Hey, so do I. Remember my friend Dolores, who had to move to Chicago? She used to rehab orphan squirrels.
Seems the owner had one tiny dumpster delivered to the complex (we need at least 4 of the regular sized ones), I've never seen a dumpster this small in my life. Guess it's a token gesture so HUD will leave them alone. I wonder what they did for the other complexes they own that are doing without water or electricity because they didn't pay the bills. Village told me they didn't pay their property taxes on my complex this year...

Yes, I try to add different smileys here and there when I find cute ones.
I learned to NEVER book a flight to Orlando Florida unless you want to experience screaming kids and crazed parents the whole way....

Oh yeah, been there, done that. trouble is orlando is a kid destination, One of the guys in my office is travelling down to Orlando by bus. Hope there's less kiddy screaming.
I remember one year travelling to England, had it all planned , expecting to sleep most of the flight so be nice and refreshed when i got to London. So I had a screaming baby sitting right behind me the whole time.

Re: LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERY DAY
I learned yesterday from my mom that my oldest cousin, Charles, died last year in January. Nobody told us and we didn't even know about the funeral. Still don't know what he died of. He was younger than me and a very nice guy. Had that nice thick wavy red hair and long thick eyelashes I always envied.
