LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERY DAY

having read the word "conkers"in two books this week I looked it up and found that it is a game played in England and Ireland with the hard seeds of a horse chestnut tree, which are also called conkers.
The object of the game is to attach a conker to a string and hit against the opponents conker until one of them breaks.

i learned how to edit a post in FB....a few days ago i had to learn how to post in there all over again. they keep changing little things without notice!

I learned that my mom's newest neighbor is totally brainless......................he hit my car last night and didn't even try to find out who it belonged to or report it to anyone.

that's not brainless, that's sneaky. He just wanted to get away with it and not have his insurance go up.

Today I learned that the world isn't done screwing me over................

learned that the Hills and Trees group and Marek aren't going to be at the artfest this year. i always look forward to seeing all those guys and buying their latest stuff. they're really the first group of artists i got to know at the first artfest i volunteered at all those years ago. its not going to be the same without them.

we're supposed to learn something positive. LOL

I learned what a thermocouple is. My friend called me Sunday to let me know she finally got a job, and the company she's not working for started out with making thermocouples and is nows a mega company. I googled the company and got a lowdown on thermocouples

wel...hmm.... did some googling after something we were talking about in another thread...found a place that sells Ice Cubes (it looks like the smaller ones which i reember the best) for $8.99 a lb. (cheaper than vermont country store)

I always remembered the packaging as being gold.

i first saw the blue and silver back around 2000 when i came up here to visit and found them at a little candy store in Chester. never got back there...neither to Chester or the store. they're thicker and to me they don't taste the same as the thnner ones do. still good but not the same.

In a way, I'm not surprised about Butler's live mascot make the bulldog more popular. But I did learn a few things about the breed.

On a interesting note, NCAA gave permission to Butler's live mascot to come to Huston for the men Final Four.

i think Drew here has a bull dog for their mascot....he's a real dog that lives in the town and gets to go into the restaurants etc.
and yesh......how many colleges haved cats for mascots???
me....another day when i didn't learn a thing. honestly...i don't think i learned a new thing at all!

I learned my great uncle george's middle name was Edward and he was born in 1904. I was googling around trying to find some info on him. My dad always told extraordinary stories about him and I wanted to check on the net to see if there was actually any proof to them. Didn't find anything other than a couple of library websites that listed some of his books, which is where I found out his birthyear and that the E stood for Edward (which was probably made up as he wrote under the name George E. Ross .) He wrote books for kids like Know Your USA and Know Your World and Know Your Presidents and there Wives (which I actually saw on sale in the gift shop at Mount Vernon)

I learned that the coyotes here in the Northeast are larger than their kin in the plains and rockies areas. I was told it uis because they tended to interbreed with wolves and dogs here.

That makes your coyotes hybrids then, and most hybrids of any species tend to be bigger than either of their parents.

I may learned this yesterday. The one day that has the lowest rate of crime nationally is on the day of Super Bowl. Go figure.

I've heard the term Bobcat but was never sure what it meant.
UK's teams if the Wildcats and they used to have a live bobcat
as their mascot. I don't know if they still do or not.

I found out today that there is a colony of seals which winder off the shore of orchard beach in the Bronx. Who knew, seals in NYC and not in the zoos!!

ilearned that Purina ONE sensitive digestion formula doesn't have fish in it...so the kitties can eat it! its nice to have another option (I just hope they're as excited!)

Learned this morning they found a new species of dinosaur that explains the gap between two different kinds in the Triassic period. Interesting......and funny looking too.

I learned about stink bugs. LOL
