that wouldn't be part of the 'kiss my" line would it? they have some nice stuff and i'm pretty sure they won't be animal tested.
trader joes has a reall cool lavendar soap...a HUGE bar with little pieces of lavendar flowers in it..its not TJs so i might be at Whole Foods too. i only use it on 'special occassions' (yeah...like going to artfest or my bd or christmas)so one bar has lasted me a couple years!

It's Whole Foods house brand. It's called 365. Really a nice scent and
not overpowering.

Zoya nail color is what they call 4-free, which means it's formaldehyde free along with three other harmful chemicals. I like it quite a bit.
I also emailed Aveeno, and they sent a note back saying that they avoid animal testing at all costs, implying that it's rarely if eve done in this country. Of course, they didn't commit to anything, but at least they did reply.
I like the brand name Ahava, but their stuff is quite expensive.

I thought I would bring this topic back up. I bought a body lotion at Whole Foods
Friday, it has a nice mint scent to it and is not overpowering. Since it's from Whole Foods it
hasn't been animal tested. It's not so tacky that I can't use it on my face. I've seen some
really nice soaps there but they are soft milled and won't last very long.
Soft milled soap will last longer if you buy it 6 months before you plan on using it. It will dry harder so it will last longer. Basis Soap is somewhat a soft hypoallergenic soap that I let sit for a year before I used the bars. They hardened up a lot and last a long time now, but I lather up just as well, which is good considering it goes for about $4 for a regular sized bar.
And if you keep your eyes open for sales and coupons, you can get almond milk for the same price per gallon as regular milk.

What the heck IS "milled" soap, anyway? I've always wondered.

Here is the reply from Johnson & Johnson in their own words:
Dear Ms. Tolian:
Thank you for contacting Johnson & Johnson Consumer Companies, Inc.. We appreciate your interest in our company.
In the U.S., we are almost never required to do animal testing to support the safety of an ingredient. This is because the materials we use have been available for years (in some cases decades) and have been extensively tested and proven safe for use. Unfortunately, animal testing is still a government requirement in some countries around the world where we market our products. In these situations, our products may undergo animal testing to meet the regulations of a specific country. We are working with other companies in the industry to provide data to regulators in these countries that still require animal testing to encourage them to discontinue this practice.
To learn more about our policies, we invite you to see more information on our website: http://www.jnj.com/community/policies/animal_testing/animal_testing.htm
Again, thank you for your interest in our company. Should you have any comments or questions in the future, please contact us via our website www.aveeno.com or by calling our toll-free number, 1866 428-3366. Our specialists are available Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. EST and will be happy to assist you.

Triple Milled Soap
Triple-milled soap is a high-quality type of soap that is commercially made by a repeated machine-rolling process.
The Process
Triple milled soaps, or French milled soaps, are made of a typical combination of a fatty acid (oil or fat) in reaction with lye (sodium hydrochloride). After the soap is made, it is dried into crystals, then rolled at least three times between large stainless steel rollers until a paste is formed. The paste is then pressed into soap molds, and triple milled soap is created.
History
The triple milling process was developed by French soap makers in the 1700s and thus receives its alternate name, French milled soap.
Benefits
The triple milling process allows for soap that is completely uniform and smooth, without impurities, and is longer lasting than other types of soap.

Thanks for both posts, Bobcat. J&J, if they're sincere, seem to be doing their best. Also, very glad to know what milled means at last. Whole Foods 365 brand bar soap is "milled" and very nice (also inexpensive). Seems to last well and they have unscented, which is important to me.

Re: vegetarians? Please help, I need some encouragement...
WF 365 has all sorts, and I believe lavender is one. Oatmeal soap/baths are an old time remedy for itchiness, and of course aloe is a skin soother. I can't tolerate anything with scents & perfumes, so the 365 soaps are a great alternative for me. Plus I trust them not to sell me anything animal tested, which I don't trust the grocery store to provide.
Speaking of perfumes, I got some great knit shirts from the Thrift Shop yesterday, but they all stink to high heaven! I don't know if it's their former owners' perfume or the scented detergent the Thrift Shop uses, but I've got to get rid of the smell before I can wear them. What can I wash them in to take away the perfume smell? Vinegar in the water? Nature's Miracle? Anybody had any luck with this sort of thing?
BTW, Mockingbird, I hope you realize we are just chatting until we hear from you. Hope things are going well. Making a major change is difficult and usually can't be accomplished in one day; it's a process you work through over time. We'd love to hear about your progress, including all the ups and downs!

No that's something else if I'm not mistaken. I'll have to look it up but it's
something that's pretty toxic.

well, kif you were really oh the cheap you could use vinegar and baking soda of roa volcano., i know if you want to look like a werewolf foaming at the mouth you can use some peroxide....and if you really want to look weird (like a foaming alien) you mix the peroxide with either green or blue mouth wash! (hey,i get bored and i brush my teeth a lot!)...maybe i need to start a 'halloween special effects' thread;)

Re: vegetarians? Please help, I need some encouragement...
i didn't think about hanging them out in the air to air them out...i learned to do that when i workedin the clothes store and wore things that had to be hamnd washed and air dried...you did your best not to have to wash them so often and most of them (which were jackets or sweaters) were just find with an airing out.
really,if you can do it i'd hang them outside on the line and let the wind blow through them all day.....bet that would whip most of the perfuminess from them. if that dind't work i'd do the soak and wash in vinegar and baking soda;)
if you like soft cothes without using fabric softener...even the unsceneted kind...you can put two or three tennis balls in your dryer with the clothes. they're cheaper than those fancy balls (learned that from Dr Oz). I have two of the 'fancy balls' but i got them for 90% off.(so i don't feel so bad: ) )

I bought some Kiss Your Face mouthwash. It doesn't have alchole in it and it tastes so
good. Very refreshing, no burn.

Re: vegetarians? Please help, I need some encouragement...
My stinky shirts have been soaking with baking soda in the washer since about noon today, with a minute of agitation just now to be sure it's mixed in. I'll finish the cycle tomorrow, then let them air dry. I'll let you know if it works!
I never use fabric softener or dryer sheets. It's just a lot of chemicals I don't want in my clothes, next to my skin, or vented into the air. I find that a dryer beats up my clothes enough to make them plenty soft enough.

You know I think people use to hot a dryer. I use a lower setting for my clothes
and cook everything else. With the exception of the Antonio's nap mat and the throw that
Jeane sent me. The lowest setting possible.
