Casper and mischief Empty Casper and mischief

Post by bpaquet Fri May 04, 2012 9:25 pm

Well... The boy sure knows how to get into things. Last week, he took a roll and pulled down some electric fence, which, fortunately, was grounded out. He didn't get hurt, but he was all tangled up. He was a good boy about staying still until he was untangled, and then he was UP and IN the barn.

Today, I got home and saw him standing in the paddock to see if it was supper time. He was flipping his tail around to chase flies. He had 4 FEET of blackberry bush tangled up in his tail. It was all wound up in the tail hairs. I got most out without incident, but I had to cut a big chunk of tail to get the thick part out. I put some silicone spray on his tail to loosen up the leftover dreadlocks, but I'm not sure he will have as much of a tail tomorrow. I might have to cut. Sad He also scratched up his sides and legs by flipping that big pricker bush all over himself. Nothing is serious, but poor guy probably feels a little ouchy.

I think I have an extremely silly pony here.

He does sound like a silly pony. Very Happy

He had a hard life before you saved him so he is just very happy and grateful for his new life.

Very silly pony indeed! I hope you don't end up cutting more of his tail off.........he's going to need all the tail he can get with the Year of the Bug just getting started.

Any bets how he got into the blackberry bush? Think he was getting a snack and got carried away?

We have blackberries growing all over the place. Somebody, years ago, planted a few bushes, and the birds snack. Then, they deposit seeds everywhere. So, my guess is that Casper was standing near one of the bushes along the fence and was swishing his tail. It probably got hung up in there and he just dragged the branch along with him when he wandered away. Ponies... They always find a way to get into things.

Poor ol' Casper! Hope that tail-bush didn't freak him out too badly before you got home. Makes me think of horrid little boys tying cans to cats' tails. *shudder* Also hope he won't have too short a bob in what Fif so rightly calls the Year of the Bug (I'm sure seeing that here). You might just have to take the summer off and follow C around waving palm fronds. cyclops

Heehee! He wasn't freaked out at all. He was cool as a cucumber and seemed like he thought I was weird for freaking out about it.

The silicone spray worked wonders, and his tail is still nice and long. It is also CLEAN. Who would know? The bottle lost its sprayer, so I need to put the leftovers in a new bottle so I can spray him down more. If it keeps a white horse clean, it is good stuff. :-D

Haahaahaaaaaa! Oh, Suzzzz, that's funny! This stuff is called Show Sheen, and it is exactly Pam for horses. It makes their hair nice and slick. It even has warnings not to put it where you put the saddle. It could slip right off. Laughing It does repel dirt and grime, and it's good for getting tangles out of mains and tails.

I use Show Sheen on my dogs Casper and mischief 1429384568 - and don't tell anyone, but we long-haired humans also use it on occasion. It costs MUCH less than the silicone detanglers we buy at the salons. You do have to watch where you spray it, or else you may just fall on your rear. It's very slippery.

I've had Sabi for 17 years, Envoy for 8 years, and Casper for a little less than a year.

I had a friend who would use Show Sheen on her own super curly hair. She swore it was the only way to keep it from knotting up.

(I can't believe I typed "mains." Geez! 30 slaps with a wet noodle. Any horse person knows better!)

If it's that slippery I bet you could use that stuff to lubricate door hinges so they wouldn't rust or get sticky with dirt.

I'm not sure silicone spray would work on metal anyway. I'd use graphite or WD 40 for that. But, Show Sheen is an awesome grooming product for animals and people who have long hairs. Casper's treatment has finally worn off. He is officially dirty today. Laughing

Yep, my own hair is poker-straight, and I have very fine, wispy strands which tangle easily. A little show sheen does wonders after shampooing!

I use Mane & Tail on ponies during the shampoo/condition phase sometimes. I love the way it smells. I think I'll be using Quick Silver shampoo a lot this year. It makes white ponies white after they get green/brown/yellow/orange.

It has blueing in it, which is what ladies used to make their hair white in the old days. I even have some that I've used in laundry. I think the horse shampoo would be fine for people. Lots of people with thick hair use Mane and Tail, so it's probably gentle enough.

I wonder if Quick Silver would be good on little white doggie legs when they turn green from running through the freshly mowed grass! Casper and mischief 1005767152

My horses stick with green and brown because we have blackish soil. But, if you have orange mud, watch out! Your white horse will be orange in no time.

Casper got a shower the other day in the rain. Thank goodness my husband stayed home while I bought my replacement car. The boys were drenched. It wasn't too bad because it was warm. At least Casper's green/brown spots are gone -- for now.

I'm trying to imagine an orange horse................hehehehehe

My hair is long, fine textured, and kinda thin too. But it doesn't tangle much when wet. Would Mane & Tail make it look thicker? Now that we finally have a Farm & Fleet here nearby I can find it easily enough to buy.

I actually think Mane & Tail is kind of heavy. I have really fine, short hair, and it never fluffed my hair much. It does smell nice, and it doesn't flatten hair. But, I have better luck with Nature's Gate products. The Mane & Tail does work really well on my horses' manes and tails -- go figure!
