Falkina comes home today
She's been having "issues" with her hormones, and is pacing the fences because she can't see everyone at the trainer's barn. She has Envoy, but she wants to see the other horses in the other pasture. They can wander out of sight. So, I figure it's better for her legs and the trainer's fences if I bring her home to spend time with Boogie and Casper until Envoy comes home next weekend. She (a petite little thing) can play mom to Boogie (a very big young thing). That will make her really happy. And, she will be able to see everyone all the time. And, she will have access to more grass. I hope this is the solution to the problem.

Re: Falkina comes home today
So far, things are quiet. She got home and I put her in the back pasture by herself. She could see the boys over the fence, but no one could really do much damage. There was no fuss. She sniffed, turned her back and ATE. The boys wanted to sniff more, but she wandered away to the call of the grass. When I brought everyone in for dinner, she and Casper had a good, long sniff. They didn't squeal or kick, so signs are good. I'll turn her out in her own space again tomorrow just to make sure we have enough time for quiet introductions. Since I have to go to work, I don't want to take any chances.

Glad the initial introductions went well. Y'all if you think the cat wars can be bad,
you don't want even know about the horse wars.

Re: Falkina comes home today
Kina was fine in her private field, and was going out quietly to the pasture with Casper and Boogie. Boogie kept bum rushing the gate, so she wouldn't go through. (Smart girl!) Everyone did get good sniffs with no squeals or snorts, so I think things will be ok if Boogie isn't too excited. So, tomorrow morning, we'll put Kina out first, and then Boogie. Casper is going to the dentist, and then he and Envoy come home. Boogie goes back to his house this weekend.

Kina is babysitting Boogie because Envoy and Casper want to play. She really wants to be with the older boys I think, but she likes Boogie too. Envoy and Boogie were squealing, so I decided not to turn everyone out together. So far, so good.

That's good to hear....that so far everything is under control.
Sounds like Kina would've made a good mom. Maybe you can foster a few more youngsters from time to time in the future to keep her happy?

Oh I don't know about fostering more kid horses. It's lots of work, and I'm ready for the slow days of summer. Besides... I need to learn to ride this great girl so maybe I can go to a show before the cold weather comes back.
Still no real fireworks. Envoy and Casper shared a stall for dinner. (DANGEROUS - DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME.) But, no one was bad. I turned them right back out, so all is still quiet. Still no clue on Boogie's real return day. Saturday? Sunday? Hmmm...

We have a temporary stall rigged in the aisle. Casper is the quietest, so he's using it. All is good, and everyone is quiet. That lets everyone have some time away from the dusk swarms. I hope Boogie gets to go home tomorrow, but still no word from the vet.

Re: Falkina comes home today
Just heard from the vet. Boogie returns on Sunday afternoon. I'll miss him, but it's best for all. He's sweet and will make someone (very tall) a very nice horse. He has a new pasture set up for himself at the vet's place. Falkina will miss him, but she'll also really like being with her boys. She will get to be the lead horse since she is the queen bee.

Re: Falkina comes home today
We had our first ride at home today. Kina was, as always, a pro. She is so talented and kind. She did extended trot, shoulder in, and half pass at the trot in the pasture that she has never seen before. We just walked around a couple times so she could look at things, and then she just set down to work. I hope she explains to Envoy how to be calm about working. He gets his first home ride this year as soon as his new bit arrives.

Don't you just love horses like her. They are teachers in their own
right.

Re: Falkina comes home today
Boogie loaded great and went home quietly. He was very happy to see his old buddies. Everyone ran to the fence to see him. He looked very happy. Kina went out with Envoy and Casper and looked very happy. The boys were ecstatic. They are walking around shoulder to shoulder. They will get to sleep in their stalls tonight since we're supposed to get rain and thunder. Boogie will be happy to be home for that excitement too. Welcome to summer, everyone!
