A very nice short ride today. Things are improving, and I didn't flop into the saddle, so Envoy was grateful. We just walked around the soggy pasture. I didn't want to stay out there tearing up the turf, so we walked for about 15 minutes and came in. It was nice to be on board with warm temps and no rain.

And we did it again today. I rode in the lot next door. It was soggy too, but it doesn't matter if it grows grass in the spring. The sun was wonderful! Envoy had a good time talking to Kina who was on the other side of the fence watching. She walked up and down as we did. Very cute little pas de deux.

Our temps have been seesawing like yours, only without the rain. Glad you get in some riding, even if it's only a half hours worth.

Yeah... It's been a weird winter everywhere. At least we are having sun and warm temps now. I see the buds on the forsythia starting to get big. I can't wait for full blown spring. The horses are ready for some grass.

Chilly and overcast here. Supposed to clear and warm up though.

Re: home again home again
It was really warm again today. We still have pretty deep water in the ditch between the paddock and pasture. Envoy decided to stop on his way to find some grass to nibble and splashed his stomach by pawing at the water. I guess he was tired of baking in his winter coat with temperatures in the 70s.

And today was windy/chilly. The horses don't care. The grass is sprouting!

Re: home again home again
It's been chilly and windy the past two days here. We have some flowers sprouting already from the last warm spell, which is supposed to be showing up again (for a day or two) by Sunday.
I hope the horses can wait long enough for the grass to grow little before going hog-wild on it. We all know how much they love that sweet spring grass!

They're already walking out into the flooded part of the pasture, which has grass coming up through the receding water. I call Kina my swamp pony. I'll try to get pix tomorrow.

They are shedding like crazy AND muddy. It's a joy to groom.

Re: home again home again
I'm wondering when I should take the clippers to Kina. My friend gave me a really cool professional clipper, and I think she'll be happy to get rid of a lot of the winter hair. Maybe a trace clip while she's shedding. Hmm...

Trace clips are good and to me far more practical than a full body clip.

Re: home again home again
Of course, the horses are shedding like crazy and we're supposed to be REALLY cold for the weekend. I am trying to decide if I should blanket and make them itchy or leave them naked and possibly cold. Choices choices.

Re: home again home again
I would blanket. Just give them a good swipe with the shedding blade before doing it.

Yeah... I brushed Envoy, and he's not a fan of being cold. Kina is a mud puppy, and I need to scrape her again before blanketing. Fortunately, she is shedding, so I think her Cushing's meds are working well.

So how long did you have to stand in the shower to get it all off your.

Re: home again home again
I'm still finding hair. Not sure the shower helped. I decided after I finished the big kids, I'd do dog/cats. I have enough hair to make a winter coat, and they aren't finished yet!
This morning, I took blankets off. It's supposed to get into the 40s and be sunny, so blankets will be too much. The horses went out, flopped to the ground, and grunted/groaned/rolled for about 8 minutes. They looked SO happy to be naked. They also left a bunch of hair where they rolled.

I know what you mean. It's time to wash the slipcover on the couch. There is a fine layer of cat hair on the back.

Re: home again home again
I found Envoy under his hair for a short ride today. It's been very dry for late winter, so the footing isn't bad. I've not been riding enough, and he (and I) is getting chubby. We didn't do a whole lot. I figure I'd better take it easy until he sheds a few pounds. Hopefully, we can work on that together.

Re: home again home again
And now winter is making a visit. Fortunately, we're a bit too far south for the snow, but we're going to get rain/flurries/wind/cold. Typical winter storm weather. The horses are all tucked in with hay to munch. I didn't blanket since it isn't supposed to get super cold. They'll be fine in their stalls with the boards up to block the wind. I don't think I'm looking forward to bed check though. It's supposed to be pouring and blowing by then.
