While we were at the oyster roast, our neighbors' horse sitter called to tell us that Envoy had escaped the pasture. She had put him in the barn, and then got Kina who was a bit upset since she was alone. We found the hole in the fence, and will fix it in the morning when it's light. I'm so grateful that she was watching out for us. Smile

No hijinks today. The fence needs some major repairs, but the patches should hold until the rain is gone. We're just going to replace the ancient wire fence with electric tape. Both the horses respect it, and it's WAY less expensive than board.

Daylight shows BIG fence damage. A corner post is down, some split rail is gone with it, and the wire fence is a goner. Looks like a weekend patch job. Hopefully, we'll dry up a bit by then. We got SO much rain on Sunday.

Fortunately it's all part of the fence that we were going to replace with electric. We have the supplies. We just need to make the time. Horseguard fencing is surprisingly affordable. Fiberglass posts will keep the rotten post problem from coming back again too soon.

That's good. Board fencing is expensive and stone even more so.

I tried to clean up the downed stuff, but I need bolt cutters and a chain saw. The people who put it up NAILED split rails to the posts. Dummies!!! The only way to get the wire down is with bolt cutters. The only way to get the posts and rails split apart is with the chain saw. Ugh.

I didn't do any chain sawing. I let my husband do that. I'm afraid of those things. I got to do the pack mule work of putting stuff in the truck.

Envoy went to my friend's house, where he used to go every winter. He was very sad to be alone at home, so she generously said he could hang out there until the vet's mare can come here. That will be after winter hay is delivered on the 28th. He will be happy to be with his old buddies and one new buddy who can go trail riding with him.

Some people do realize it......otherwise she wouldn't have offered Envoy the short vacation hanging out with her ponies.

I tell people my Bijoux is a social butterfly in fur!

Smile That's Mouski. He takes about 2 minutes to get used to new people/critters in the house. (Except rodents. He isn't hospitable to them at all! Razz )

Envoy is doing fine. I hope he's been a comfort to my friend. One of her horses isn't doing well, and might have crossed the Bridge this week. I'll find out when I go visit today.

Glad to hear Envoy is bringing some comfort to your friend. Sounds like she needs it just like you do. Kindred spirits....

My friend's horse is still here, but is on heavy pain meds. They're trying to figure out what's wrong with his feet. It looks like founder, but he has none of the classic things that cause it. The vet is hoping it's just abscesses from bruises, but my friend and I are suspicious. If he doesn't improve in a couple weeks, it's on to x-rays.

Envoy will come home next weekend. I would love if he could stay at my friend's, but with my new work schedule, it is just too hard to go take care of him with the weird commute.

Could be, but probably not. He has had ongoing neurologic problems for years. I think things are systemic. He seems alright now, but certainly not sound. Sad

Envoy, on the other hand, is doing great. He is happy with his situation. He will come home a week from Sunday to hang out with my vet's broodmare who just weaned her baby. She needs to gain some weight and have down time after being a good mama.

That's sad to hear. Staggers, that's an old term, but it deals with plant toxicity. That's the only think I can think of and I don't think that's it.

My friend suspects EPM, but the definitive test for it is very invasive. Treatment is very expensive. With his other problems, there is a question about whether testing and treatment for that problem would be worth it or just prolong other problems. Poor guy has had problems his whole life.
