I rode Lu for a very short time today. I need a smaller girth and bridle. The saddle was loose, but it fits really well, so the girth wasn't a big deal. The bridle, however, had to be rigged up so it would stay on his pony-sized head. I didn't want to make him go around with badly fitting clothes. He's an attractive guy, so he should look sharp in his clothes. Smile

I also got all the financing for Ruby straight. She should be coming home around April 6. I need to set up spring shots and a health certificate for her before she comes.

That's wonderful. And there is nothing worse than an ill fitting bridle unless it's an ill fitting mouth piece.

I think I'll get a pony bit because the rings on the one I have are a bit large. Maybe a weymouth... I wonder if I still have Sabi's. He used a 4 3/4 weymouth as a loose ring snaffle. Laughing

That's interesting, my experience with that type of mouth piece has not been good.

It's about the only bit style I use. Mine are all KK bits, so they have a "football" in the middle to keep them from pinching or jamming into the roof of the horse's mouth. Envoy's bit is all kinds of funky and new because he has a very sensitive mouth. But, Lu seems happy with the new configuration, so I'm leaving it as-is.

Got the estimate for the barn. It isn't enough to pursue the claim since our deductible is really high. But... It's still a lot of money to replace the roof. I'm seriously wondering if I should tell the company about the rot in the support beams and other things that have accumulated over the years or just patch up what we have and hope for the best.

Sit down and talk with your adjuster. See what they think, this is a case of pay now and pay later and we all know that pay later is a lot more expensive.

Yeah... The timing stinks because so many people have damaged homes from the big storms up/down the east coast. But, it has to be done. Sigh... Paperwork, administrivia, gotta love it.

Naughty Lu! I took his halter off in his stall, and he walked past me and right out the door. He trotted around the back yard and nibbled the thick grass there. He wasn't going anywhere, but he was playing tag with me. He finally stopped for cookies and went nicely into his house. I think the spring grass mischief has started.

At least Envoy was a good boy. He didn't get too nervous during the shenanigans.

I got the report on Ruby's health exam today, She is doing very well. She needs her teeth done (it's that time of year). She got her short, and we are waiting for Coggins results to get the health certificate to travel. I hope MD turns their Coggins paperwork around quickly since I'm supposed to pick her up next weekend.

hehehehe........Lu is trying out the rules to see how far he can bend them. Sounds like if he's being naughty a bit now he feels comfortable enough to act like that. Now his real personality will begin to shine.

And Fair Hill is warming up for eventing, and fox hunting is happening, and the show season is underway. Labs should be rocking it. I hope so anyway.

Yup, Fiff. He's really blossoming. He acts all hyper, but really he is a big babysitter. Very smart too. Hopefully, Envoy won't show him big mischief like parading around the neighborhood in the middle of the night.

Had a fabulous trail ride today with Lu. We were with a young horse who was very skittish and a campaigner who had an attitude. Lu was shaking his head like a pony, but I think that's because he was annoyed by being asked to stay back with the skittish horse. He showed his endurance horse side. He's very fun!

Weather was perfect. A little breezy for the skittish young horse, but he survived and settled well. We weren't out as long as we could have been, but that's ok. It was my test ride with Lu, and I don't want to stress him too much while he's getting back in shape. I have a feeling he might have a little arthritis in his hocks (he is 19/20 after all), so easy rides for a while are the way to go.

Next weekend is Ruby pickup weekend, so probably no riding unless I ride her at her soon-to-be old farm that has wonderful trails. But, I have a slow, easy ride planned with friends the following weekend, so we'll see which pony gets to go. I don't have a current Coggins for Lu as of this week, and shots aren't planned until the 20th. Ah... Details!

Ruby's stall is ready except for moving the water bucket hooks. They're currently under where the fan will be in the summer. I don't want dust to get blown into the water, so we're going to move the hooks to the other side of the stall. The mats/shavings are in, the hay net installed, and safety checks done. We're ready for new pony!

I'll be meeting a friend on Friday, and we're going to Dover Saddlery to spend money we don't have. So excited! Laughing

I might have to delay by a day. It's supposed to snow up there on Saturday, the original pickup day. Sigh... Old Man Winter just won't give it up.

We delayed by a day, and now the prediction for snow has gone down. Better safe than sorry though. I'll pick Ruby up on Sunday when the driving will be easier no matter what.
