You ain't seen nothin'. It's really not all that muddy. Just hasn't sprouted grass after the winter's MUD. They'll go out in the dry(ish) pasture that has grass later today. All is really quiet, and she wants to meet her new brothers up close. Going to try one at a time in the big pasture to let them run/buck, then it's off to the dry one so they don't tear it up.

Re: home again home again
There was no running and bucking. The pasture introduction was absolutely boring. Ruby went out and stuck her nose in the grass. Envoy went out, wiggled a back foot at her and stuck his nose in the grass. Lu didn't pay attention to anyone and stuck his nose in the grass. All is good. Everyone rolled and got dirty, so I think we now have an official herd.

That's good. I'm into calm introductions. Then fresh spring grass trumps everything.

Re: home again home again
Today was spring shots for Envoy and Lu. Both were stars. Unfortunately, she was out of one of the vaccines, so I will pick the shots up in a couple weeks when their immune systems have settled from today's shots. This one isn't one of the normal ones; it's for botulism, which can hide in the soil. A foal across the street died of it about 10 years ago. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Re: home again home again
Today was Envoy's and Lu's day. Envoy was a star. I haven't ridden him since November, and he just went around the pasture like he had been doing it every day. Such a good boy!
Lu decided to show off his lesson pony tricks. We were riding in the pasture "ring," and he thought he could just rush to the gate. Nope... Been on that ride before. He thought he could stop and pretend like there was something nasty on his leg. Nope... Been on that ride too. Once he figured out I wasn't a kid in a lesson ring, he gave me a lovely ride. He was just testing his boundaries, and wasn't nasty about it at all. He was a good boy too.

Uh huh. And, he's an Arabian, so he's always thinking. If I'm not paying attention, he'll think for me thank you very much.

Had a nice Ruby ride yesterday morning. I have to remember that she doesn't have as much formal training as Envoy. She's smart and will enjoy learning things though. I can feel her thinking all the time. Of course, right after I took the saddle off and groomed her, she flopped down in a mud puddle and rolled.

Everyone has learned where their stalls are, and coming in is quiet. They are out in the back pasture (that of course flooded right after they went out), and they let themselves in perfectly. I love having smart horses.

The horses went into the big field today. There was much running, bucking, and playing. The wind was blowing and temps falling, so everyone was feeling their oats. It's funny to watch Ruby chasing the resident geese around. They take off into the deeper water, and she trots along the edge.

Re: home again home again
These things always seem to happen when my pone is inside. I rarely carry it with me when I'm handling horses. Not sure why except that I just don't think about it.

Had to longe Ruby today. She's in season, and it's been a while since I rode. She got her bolts out and we had a really nice ride. She saw a horse-eating squirrel that made her shy, but she bravely went on once I laughed and told her she was a silly girl. She's going to be very fun.
