What I did for Thanksgiving

Yeshterday was a very special day. My mom woke up and drank her stinky water like she always does. But, then she went into the kitchen and started cooking! Usually, she goes outside and doesn't pay attention to the stove. First thing she did was take a BIG bird shaped thing out of the cold box. She told me that I would get some later, so I went to play. Good smells came out of the kitchen, and I thought I recognized turkey. I had to check a couple times, but my mom told me that I would have to wait for a while.

When my mom called me (and GK), we were very excited. We ran around the kitchen pouncing on each other. Then.... She gave us warm TURKEY LIVER! It was the best day. We ate and ate and purred and purred. We had to take naps when we were done because it was so tasty.

Mom says that there is some neck meat waiting for us, but I haven't seen it yet. I hope it's as tasty as the livers. YUMMMMMMY!

Hi Gateway, we had quiet Thanksgiving here. Mom did
make turkey. She brought me some, I didn't really like
it. I sniffed and tasted it but when I tried to bury it Meowmy
laughed and that was fine. I was still her sweet boy and she
loves me very much. I am very thankful that Meowmy brought

We had a quiet thanksgiving here too. My peoples didn't have turkey since my other sis was out of town, so we had beef tenderloin instead! It was soooooo good, but I didn't care for the asparagus. Now the butter on top of the sweet potatoes........mmmm. After some snuggling, they left me all alone. But that was okay, they went to keep my buddy Brad next door company since his family didn't come for him and he was all alone. I napped until they got back and got an extra large dinner without having to ask!...............Bijoux

Our Thanksgiving was busy with lotsa peoples! Those guys who watched me and the dogs while our peeps were away on vacation came over for dinner and made me nervous that maybe they would leave me again, so I went and hid in the basement until it was all over. Later, I came out and gave Mommy LOADS of hugs and purrs when I found out they hadn't gone away after all. I was too upset to want turkey yesterday, but when they made soup today, that Wesley guy gave me some and it was good!

We don't know what happened to that ol' cat yesterday, but we got bunches of attention and bunches of turkey! We tried to trip Mommy when she was running around in the kitchen so she might drop some more food onto the floor for us. We cleaned up after her pretty good! We don't bark at those people who watched us anymore when they come into the house, because we know they gave us our favorite chicken jerky every time we looked at 'em with our big brown puppy-dog eyes! Score!

no human turkey for the Rescue Kitties (there wasn't enough for the human down here to eat...i miss having left overs!!)
but Salem,Toothpick,Carter and Franny got ProPlan Turkey and rice canned food and Nobe got some shimp and salmon fancy feast. everyone got their own can so everyone was very full!

Bijoux was very full the past few nights, as he's had extra big dinners and treats. Not that he's complaining any.

I miss having leftovers too, the leftovers the neighbor gave my mom only made one small meal.

Oh man! Turkey sandwiches, gallons of turkey soup... Gone!!! (A Christmas Story) Leftovers really are the best part. I think there should be places dedicated to serving leftover turkey dinner stuff. There's nothing quite like it.

Gateway got his neck meat today. He liked it a lot and then came and asked for some of my sandwich. It doesn't matter that he was FULL. He wanted more turkey.

there are places that specialize in these turkey dinner in a sandwich things.....i don't know if they would be considered left overs or not. (and most look like something i wouldn't feed the dog!)
i used to like to take the little rolls we had back home and put a piece of turkey and a piece of jelly cranberry between them and eat it that way. i might also add a slice of pickle or an olive in there. ( i miss the thing that is usually called a 'relish dish'...folks up here just don't seem to do that!)

YUM! Turkey sandwich with cranberry stuff. (I made my own cranberry stuff this year and I don't know if I can ever go back to the canned stuff. I LOVED it and it was EASY/cheap.) I don't know about relish stuff. I don't like many things that are considered relish beyond dill pickles, so I probably just ignore it. I'm that way about gravy too. Weird, I know.

The kitties are lying around like they're still sleeping off their feasts. I think turkey coma lasts longer for kitties than for people. (I am still FULL from Thursday though. What a pig I am!)

That's all I'll eat from a relish tray.

Do you make your own gravy. The closest that I can come to
homemade is to open a jar of Heinz. Sautee some onions in
pan drippings, then dump the jar in the pan.

Well... When I remember gravy, I do make my own. Very often I have to get Heinz for my husband. I like gravy, I just don't eat it often enough to remember it all the time. Here's how I make mine:

1 T butter
1 T flour
Make very blonde roux.
Pan drippings and stock from turkey "stuff" to make it gravy textured.
Salt/pepper to taste

If you take out big puddles of turkey fat, add the stock to the bottom of the turkey pan, then heat it up so you scrape up all the yummies from the bottom of the turkey pan, you've got gravy gold!

Mannnnnnnnnnnn, I wish I had time to read all of these...got lots of leftovers. Let me tell you, shredded leftover turkey sure makes the grilled cheese sandwiches YUUMMMMEEE. Of course, as soon as I start shredding, Envigado is doing a little scratchie at the counter for some "shreds"

i've always hated homemade gravy and homemade stuffing or dressing. if i eat gravy its the stuff from the jar and i prerer stove top stuffin!
remember, youi can take just a little bit of left over turkey, a bag of frozen mixed veg, a jar of gravy and dump it together (add onions it you like ..i LOVE onions!) in a baking pan.....then make Bisquik in the 'biscuit' version and put that on top like a shepard's pie...bake it like that. its sort of half way between pot pie and shephard's pie without the hassle!

YUM! I'm not a stovetop fan, but the "shepherd's pie" sounds GREAT. I need quick recipes for the winter when Envoy is at boarding school and I get home late.

Gateway went crazy as I shredded up the final leftover turkey today. I made hash out of it and froze the bones, skin, leftover bits and pieces for soup later. I need to make beef/barley soup from the rib roast bones from my dad's delicious beef. Time for soup!

i'm a wealth of recipes that are cheap and 'just dump this and that' in type.
the soup sounds good.....i miss good soupy soup! (here soup is so filled with stuff its more like rachel ray's 'stoup' than soup! I like broth with my 'stuff' to put crackers in!)

Oh yea... I like oyster crackers in my soup. I like lots of stuff and lots of broth. I guess that means I just like soup! It's just about time to start on clam chowder too. I have different recipes from different areas, so I have to use them all, right? Gateway says he LOVES clam chowder time because he gets sips of CLAM JUICE!

Mmmmmm.........homemade clam chowder. I like the New England Style myself, with lots of thyme in it.

I like all kinds of clam chowder. About the only soup I don't like is the really greasy Chinese stuff. I'm sure the real kind is fine, but so many Chinese restaurants make a big bowl of grease with chunks for hot and sour or egg drop soup that I just avoid them altogether. Besides... There's the issue of tripe. Can't handle the thought.

Tonight is beef and barley soup night. I've got to get those bones cooking soon so we'll have yummy broth. Then the rest kind of takes care of itself.

It was very good -- and a perfect day for it. Yesterday, it was 67 degrees, today 42. Tonight, the weather people say we might get flurries. (You should have SEEN the southerners in the store stocking up like they were going to get snowed in. What a hoot!) It's definitely soup season! Now, I need to find some time to actually ride a horse!

i've only had hot and sour at a couple places...i tend to get it when i'm sick with a stuffed up nose....haven't had it in years though.it used to be that there was an asian place just a coupld doors down or across the street where i'd work and youc ould get a big container of soup for no more than $1.99 so it was easy to get.
