Bobby Cat Turns 12!

My little brush fiend turns 12 today (or thereabouts - we just counted back 6 weeks from when we aquired him from the dog pound)! He's my sweetheart! I gave him lots and lots of brushing this morning, and some canned food, so he should be happy and sleeping right now. He'll get some more birthday brushing later tonight. I swear, he likes that better than treats!

We are having a few jealousy issues, however... Despite her pining for her Daddy in that photo on my blog yesterday, Lyra is kind of my dog, and I think Bobby is getting a little green with jealousy. He'll put his claws into the furniture right in front of me, especially if a dog is sitting with me. OK fine - I can deal with that. He is also starting to assert his status as top cat in other ways though. If nature calls during the night, Lyra has a little trick of crawling into my spot in bed so she can have some middle-of-the-night tummy rubs before I get back into bed. It's pretty cute. I scritch her and then pick her up and put her back down by the foot of the bed. Last night, however, when I returned to bed, Lyra was still in her regular foot of the bed spot because Bob had moved from the pillow to the place where she gets her tummy rubs. In other words, he blocked her access to this spot. It was quite deliberate.

That stuff is not too bad, but I noticed a pretty good scratch on Lyra's chest the other night. The dogs do rush Bobby sometimes, and he will lash out at them, but we don't want anyone getting hurt. I don't know why that one happened, and I don't think he did it without provocation, but I'm a little worried about the two of them. He acts like he likes her, and will do head butts with her, but if he's in a bad mood, I don't want him picking on her either.
