Junko, calico kitten
This is the calico kitten my parents adopted from one of the litters that was born outside. I know Junko is an odd name for a kitten. She was named after the first woman to climb Mt Everest. Junko likes to climb anything she can, including my bare legs.

Great pix! Great name, too! Junko Tabei said, "... willpower you cannot buy with money or be given by others - it rises from your heart." May our little Junko always have heart!

Junko has a vet appointment tomorrow morning. I think my dad will do the entire kitten package.

Fluff, I know (having had them, and been one) that parents can be problematic, but you seem to have pretty danged good ones in many ways. Chiming in with Becky, let us know what the vet thinks of our Junko.

I hope it will be a good visit. Junko has been sneezing off and on for the past few weeks. I'll mention it tomorrow if I remember it. Don't worry, I was planning on providing an update of the vet visit anyway.

How did the appointment go? Did the vet figure out why Junko is sneezing? Is it a kitty cold? ((((((((((healing vibes, just in case))))))))

The vet thinks it's due to dust and who knows what in the environment. Junko got another round of worm medicine and some sort of vaccine in addition to gaining one pound. The feline leukemia and HIV test didn't get done due to Junko being very squirmy. Hopefully it will get done next time. Otherwise, the vet visit went well.

Re: Junko, calico kitten
My Weezer sneezes every shpring, and this year, with all the rain, she's been fairly sneezy right on through the summer. I think she's reacting to mold. I'll also just throw out there that in the several years I've used Yesterday's News (recycled newspaper pellets) cat litter instead of clay, Weez has been much less wheezy. The dust from clay cat litter can be hard on some cats.
Gained a pound! Woohoo!

Re: Junko, calico kitten
Dust and mold definitely affect some kitties. Archimedes was our allergy cat. He sneezed a lot in the spring and fall. Right now, it's ragweed season here, and lots of people/pets are sneezing like crazy. I even started this year for the first time.
I hope Junko's sneezes are something minor, and that she's feeling 100% soon.

Re: Junko, calico kitten
I'm hoping the sneezing will pass on its own. Few weeks ago she started to trill. I didn't know a cat could chirp and trill until my parents adopted Arwen. Arwen chirped and trilled all the time. I didn't realized how much I missed the trilling until Junko started to do it.

Some kitties just have sensitive respiratory systems, and sneeze easily. My Errol is a sneezer, but he's not really sick ever. If the kitty has the chronic sneezes, it really helps if they get 500 mg of L-Lysine each day. That's the same stuff people take, and when we use it, we grind up the tablets and put half on the food in the morning and half in the evening.

Re: Junko, calico kitten
My sis' past kitty Merlin was quite allergic to mold and pollen. His eyes would get this thick goop just like mine, and we both sneezed up a storm--especially during ragweed season.
I've heard kitties chirping, but I don't think I've ever heard a trill.

Antonio trills and I've had other cats that have done it.

Re: Junko, calico kitten
Junko does have drainage out of one eye. When my parents brought her inside, her right eye had to cleaned multiple times a day. On her first visit to the regular vet, she got medicine to put on her eye. Now, Junko's eye doesn't drain as much.

Re: Junko, calico kitten
I always have my allergies show up in one eye.....then if it's REALLY bad both eyes start in. But is Junko's eye goop from allergies or an infection? Glad the meds are having an effect already though.

Re: Junko, calico kitten
I have no idea the cause of the eye drainage. It's possible that allergies have something to with it. The eye is at a point where it is cleaned only when there is drainage. Junko doesn't get eye drainage everyday and may happen few times a week. When the eye drainage is when the medicine goes on.

Sounds kinda like an allergy to me...comes and goes. Does she sneeze too when the eye has drainage?

Re: Junko, calico kitten
She sneezes whether the eye has drainage or not. Some of the sneezing could be dust particles and who knows what that irritates the nose. It's not a chronic sneezing.
