It's a sad time
Dear friends, My Lucie went over the rainbow bridge last Sunday. She had a lot of physical problems but I think we gave her as good a life as was possible. She was 13 years and 1 month old. She was beautiful. Love to you all, Pups

Hello Pups. I hated hearing the sorrowful news. How are you doing otherwise?

Our hearts are with you, dear Pups. I think all of us here have known this loss, so you are among sympathetic friends. I wish you comfort. We also know that your dear Lucie was beautifully unique, as all our beloveds are. When and if you feel like sharing, we'd love to honor Lucie by reading your stories about her. I expect there may be a few, given her respectable age.

I am so sorry about Lucie...........I know you loved her very much, and so did we. She was such a unique little soul.
"..trouble free you sleep
(and dream, perhaps, of me),
We could not, if we would,
forget each other.
When, in turn, the dark
Shall glaze my eyes, your joyous bark
Will greet me, echoing in the sky.
Till then, dear loving heart, goodbye."

It's a sad time
Yes, sometimes I wonder why we keep setting ourselves up like this...but it's better to have a pet for a while than not to have one at all.
Thank you all for sharing my pain. I have been having a lot of stuff go on lately anyhow and I didn't need this but I'm OK...
I loved the poems, they were very moving and meant a lot to me. Thank you so much for all the good wishes.
I'm 75 years old now and Lucie was my last dog. I am going to write a story about her later. She was eccentric but interesting.
I still lurk on this site from time to time and will continue to do so, you are all very dear to me. Thank you again--love from Pups

Pups, I know this isn't the time but I'm going to throw this out for
later consideration. Would you consider doing foster care? Think about it
for a spell. ((((HUGS AND LOVE))))

(((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))) We set ourselves up for this time and again. Our hearts are too big and full of love to give to keep the house empty of furkids for long.....

Re: It's a sad time
We have a group here called Old Dog Haven that gives old dogs a final home--it's a wonderful group and I have supported it for years and years (you can vote for it on the Pet Rescue site)--and I had always thought I would like to help there when my dog-days were over, but we don't have a proper home for a dog--Lucie loved it, it's dog heaven as far as she was concerned but we live on my son's place and have no fence nor the ability to get one. Also my husband and I are pretty well stove up from arthritis and we don't do many walks--we were good enough for Lucie because she had arthritis too--we got old together but I don't think we can help another dog now. It's a great suggestion, Sue, and believe me we have thought about it already. We do babysit our son's dog while they work which is good for all of us--Trouble has 4 parents and she's very happy not to be alone during the day. (She still looks for Lucie, though.)

"Trouble" ---- oh, that's so funny.
Old Dog Haven sounds like a wonderful place. Any chance they'd let you just come and sit with the dogs for a half-hour or so every now and then? Not walkies, the younger set can handle that, just someone to sit and stroke their heads and talk to them the way dogs like to be talked to?

Love it! I would bet a rescue/shelter would love someone to help keep the pups happy. And if the people are happy too, what's to lose?

Wonderful, spectacular idea Suzzzz! No rescue/shelter would say no to volunteers who do snuggles all day long.

Pups, you might consider it if you someday get needy for canine companionship. But hey, you've got Trouble!

Re: It's a sad time
Not trying to influence Pups at all, but I saw this and thought of her right away. I'll just bet these older dogs would enjoy a visit from someone they can relate to! I remember my mother and my Blue kitty had a special bond, because not only did they share a birthday, but they shared much more - both being seniors!
Re: It's a sad time
And senior dogs and cats in the shelters need more snuggles since they know what a loving home is like, but lost it and wonder why they're in the shelter in the first place. They are the ones who get depressed first and more deeply than those who haven't had a home yet.

I know....that's why I always gave the older furkids more cuddles and hugs. They sure appreciated it too.
