A tad chilly in the morning but wet, warm, and partly sunny here. Horses down the road are happy munching on the spring grass.

Lovely weather today. I rode Kina for a few minutes only to find out that she isn't ready for it yet. So, I picked stalls and walked the dog (wearing riding breeches and paddock boots).

Sounds like a good dog walking outfit to me.

Re: home again home again
Today, I rode Envoy for a short time. By the time we got done doing a bunch of house things, the sun was starting to set. Unfortunately, that's bug time. So, I sprayed both of us down and we got a good 30 minutes. After that, I started to feel like I was donating blood, and we went into the barn. Now, the horses are in front of fans, and are waiting for full dark to go out again.

Re: home again home again
Envoy and I had a better ride today. I rode earlier, and the mosquitos weren't swarming. The flies are kind of bad, but the spray was effective for about 45 minutes. We walked around the pasture and did some lateral work. His legs are still not quite right, but he is willing to try just about anything. I hope we can get to the trails before the flies get really bad. It's no fun trail riding when the flies are chasing us out of the woods.

I can understand that.....the flies bite us too. Nearly as bad as the skeeters.

Rest day today. I had to work, and then there was a board of supervisors meeting and presentation for our county. We have a really bad drainage problem, and I wanted to hear what's being done. It's a little encouraging. Maybe the back pasture won't flood as bad 10 years from now.

Hopefully less. You know every time I come into this thread I think of the old nursery rhyme.

Re: home again home again
That's what I was thinking when I started it.
Thunder today, so we played it safe and didn't ride. No rain... Just rumbling. Tomorrow is supposed to be springtime again, so I think it's our day. Then Thursday is dentist day, and Friday is spring shots. Not a very ride-y week.

Envoy and I went on a road ride. He seems to like going out solo. We didn't go long because the mosquitoes started to swarm. We're both kind of itchy because we didn't make it home before donating a gallon of blood.
Tomorrow is dentist day. The weather isn't supposed to be great, so it'll be a good day for resting afterwards.

Dentist day went well. Both horses have no problems with their teeth, although Envoy had a couple sores where his teeth had been rubbing on his cheeks. Got them taken care of just in time. The dentist said she wishes that all her horses were as sweet as Envoy and Kina.

They probably would be if they were treated as well as Kina and Envoy are by you. Glad to hear they both got a good dentist report.

Shoot! No vet today. Her day started with a call to help a mare who was having trouble foaling. Then, while she was doing that, she got 2 more emergency calls. We're going to try again another day.

Re: home again home again
Envoy and I took a ride down the road. No excitement, except a black snake who wouldn't leave the road. Envoy refused to walk past, so I had to dismount, shoo the snake, and walk the 1/2 a block home. It was kind of funny. I'm glad I shooed the snake off the road. He definitely would have been squashed. Envoy and I rode in the pasture for a little while longer. A nice way to spend a beautiful afternoon.

No point in saying I'm sorry because I'm not. I'm the image of that was just too funny. Glad you moved him, snakes do a lot good.

Re: home again home again
Especially black snakes. We have a nice, big one in the barn, and we don't have mice or copperheads. Well done, slithery friend. The horses don't mind it because it doesn't come near them. It's a perfect relationship.
No riding today even though the weather was perfect. I used the opportunity to truck the blankets to the laundromat, and then did yard/barn chores. The horses were happily out in the pasture.
I saw a first today... Envoy and Kina were grooming each other. They were standing in opposite directions and scratching each other gently with their teeth. I love it when horses do that, and this is the first time I've seen mine doing it.

Re: home again home again
Had another very nice walk-y ride with Envoy today. He seems to be getting a bit stronger. I hope to go on a trail ride with Cree's new little girl later in June. I saw them at Saturday's farmer's market. He is doing really eel, and she needs to ride with people who don't want to run like crazy. That's me (and my friend who rides Paso Finos)! I will be happy to see Cree.

They are. And she is such a nice girl. She's about 13, and very polite. It's so cool to see kids who love their horses and are willing to work hard for their hobbies.
