May not be as effiacent but a lot healthier that way.

The wind was blowing today, so the bugs weren't too bad. Envoy and I played a bit. The neighbor decided to shoot his stupid pistol. Envoy was fine with it. I about jumped out of my skin. Thank goodness he was steady and told me just to calm down.

Well... The radio was all abuzz with warnings about a supercell thunderstorm. I saw crazy lightening on my way home. And then... Nothing. So, I didn't ride because I was sure we'd get sizzled, but it turned out to be a lot of fuss and no show. We didn't even get a sprinkle of rain. Oh well... The horses enjoyed coming in early and hanging out under their fans.

That storm was all hat and no cattle, eh? (snerk) I love that expression. Hate that it kept you from riding, but WAY better safe than sorry, for both of you. Plenty of rides still to come!

Re: home pony stories
Yuppers. We had a small thunder storm early in the morning, followed by beautiful light rain. It was way more of what we needed than hail, lightening, and downpours. The crops are very happy, and the ponies weren't panicked.
Today, Kina and I had a nice, short ride. I had spent the day helping at the CSA farm, and was pretty tired. So, we took a light day. It was fun for both of us.

Envoy was very good yesterday. We didn't do anything too stressful because it was so muggy. We could barely breathe. But, he worked like a good boy. I've found that he's much happier about working if I bring horse cookies on the ride and give him some when he's doing really well.

It's like putting quarters in those rides at the stores when we were kids.

Re: home pony stories
I noticed a weird lump on Casper's upper leg. It isn't sore or warm, so I'm not sure what it is. It's a bit too big to be a bug bite. It would be a windpuff if it were lower on his leg, but nope. Wrong place. It doesn't look like a melanoma or sarcoma. I'm not worried because it doesn't seem to be bothering him. But, I'll text the vet and ask if she has any ideas.

Kina and I rode early (for us) this morning. The heat wasn't too bad, and the bugs weren't bad either. She wanted to go out with her boys, but she agreed to do some light stuff. We're going to the trainer's on Saturday, so we had to practice a little.

Just want to reiterate: I don't reply to everything, but I always read about the ponies. Please don't forget to keep us posted on outcomes of bumps and lumps and things that go bump in the night!

Re: home pony stories
Well... This lump (on Casper) seems to be nothing serious. It's there, but it's causing no pain or lameness. The vet thinks it's probably a reaction to a bug bite. I gave him some Benadryl (finally looked up the spelling), and it looks a little droopier. It's definitely still there, but the edges are kind of sagging. I guess the fluid is starting to go away. Still no pain or lameness, so I think it's just a "thang."

Re: home pony stories
Maybe it was the horsie version of a hive.....and the benedryl is slowly making it go away. Probably a bit more allergic than most to a certain bugs' bite.

Kina really wowed everyone today. She did everything just right. It was HOT, and we didn't ride too long, but she was just doing everything as asked. She was ready for a shower and to stand under the fan in Envoy's winter stall when she was done. I headed into the AC for a nice glass of ice water.

Re: home pony stories
This week's been a bust for riding. Yesterday, we went to the movies. Today, it was thundering and raining all around us. It only sprinkled at home, but I decided not to dare the thunder and lightening. The ponies are all tucked in, and now the moon/stars are out. Oh well... Maybe tomorrow. The temps aren't too bad.
On the lookout for Tropical Storm Chantal. (Please, go away, Chantal!)

Re: home pony stories
Success! Envoy and I had a nice, short ride. The flies were awful. It's deer fly time, and they don't care about fly spray. So, I soaked Envoy with spray, and rode for about half an hour. When one bit his leg and he lifted it towards his mouth, I figured we were done. Poor pony. He went into the barn, got a cold shower, and under the fan for him. I'm hiding out in the house. Next ride, I'm going to try the stinky dryer sheets to see if they'll keep the flies away.

Re: home pony stories
I sure hope those dryer sheets work. Here the skeeters are super bad. I got bit seven times in under ten minutes just checking the mailbox! (so if I get sick you'll know why--west nile)

Re: home pony stories
The mosquitoes here are pretty terrible too. We always have some since we're in the swamp, but it's been a damp year. They're just worse. But, no west nile... Just itchy bites.
I found something I'm going to try. Anything for relief! http://www.doversaddlery.com/freedom-45-spot-on-fly-control/p/X1-23054/
Still going to use the dryer sheets. They can't hurt, and they'll make us look silly. Can we have more fun?
