I think you've nailed it on the head. Now, depending on what the vet says, it's pallitive care.

Yeah... It's such a shame. He's a really well bred, beautiful horse who should have an amazing show career underway. He's only been backed a few times because of all his issues. He is terribly sweet though. Perfect pasture buddy for his retired pasture friend.

Re: home again home again
Got a ride in today. The wind was blowing and the temperatures falling. It was a nice, calm ride. My friend and I are planning to get in some weekend trail rides over the winter, so I need to get Envoy in shape. Hopefully, his winter companion will be alright while we're gone, but maybe she can hang out at my friend's house while we ride. I don't think that would be a problem.

We're going to go on a test ride tomorrow. My friend's horse sometimes has trouble loading into the trailer. He isn't frightened, just stubborn. He doesn't fuss or bolt out. He just refuses to get in - even for carrots. Silly boy.

I hope Envoy doesn't learn anything about that. He always walks right in. Comanche, be good!

Maybe, just maybe he'll teach the other horse to not be so stubborn about getting in the trailer. Envoy's good loading behavior could rub off on his friend.

Re: home again home again
Let's hope! We ended up not going today because it was rainy in the morning. We didn't feel like wiping rain off the tree branches. We attempted a neighborhood ride, but it was not successful. There was some decorative grass that had Envoy interested and a little bit antsy. Then, some rude teenagers came flying from behind it on bikes yelling at the top of their lungs. Poor Envoy lost his little pony mind. He was quivering. Didn't know whether to bolt, buck, or rear. I just got off. No reason to go through any of that. Fortunately, my friend's horse is level headed and only stepped back out of the road. We went back to the arena and had some fun riding around there. So, Sunday is the next trail ride attempt in the park.

Poor Envoy! What an experience being scared witless like that for no reason. (((((((((((pats of gentleness))))))))))))

My friends and I used to chase them. There is nothing like a bunch of pissed off broads charging after you.

When I rode Sabi, another friend and I did the same thing. We would hoot and holler, and gallop after the rude bike people. It was hilarious. I wish Envoy were that brave.

We went for a walk past the scary place. He was alert but not terrified, so that's progress. He'll be coming home on Sunday, but I plan to take him over there every couple of weeks through the winter, so we'll have opportunities to go past there a lot.

Sounds like good therapy to me. I can picture you riding hell bent on catching rude bicyclists.....Envoy is just too sweet, polite, and maybe young to do that.

Re: home again home again
Well... It was kind of a disaster. He was a fruitloop. He jigged down the trail, and one massive spook where he spun in circles and tried to bolt, and one minor shy at a horse eating squirrel. We weren't sure what was up, because my friend and I are both stumped. But, I'm glad we went on a trial run so I didn't mess up tomorrow's big ride. It all ended well enough. He was a gentleman at the trailer, and helped the hesitant loader get on. And, he rode like a champ. I am wondering if he has a little nagging pain that was making him act up.
Envoy came home tonight so my friend and her sweet trail pony can go on their ride tomorrow with no stress.

Up a certain creek...
The new horse, Mazel, escaped somehow today. She didn't go far and wasn't hurt, but we need to do some investigating. There was no sign of a break in the fence, so we don't know how she did it. Envoy is usually the escape artist, and he was still in the pasture. Something is weird.

Re: home again home again
It would have been hard. She's almost 17h, and the fence has a low wire and is pretty overgrown since it goes through a bunch of trees. But, we'll walk the line on Saturday when the sun is out.
And, today I remember the joys of having a gray horse. She rolled in the last little bit of mud and is filthy. Envoy has some mud on his coat, but you can't see it as well. Mazel has big black/brown patches all down one side and on both knees. Silly girl!

Re: home again home again
Sometimes I think horses are worse than dogs about finding the last bit of mud in three counties.

Re: home again home again
No escapes today. Mazel spent most of the day lying down in the sun. I asked her owner (my vet) if she does that a lot, and she said that she's never noticed, but probably. She really seemed to be resting well. No signs of anything wrong.
