I'm going to be a great-aunt...again
Just found out last night my niece is expecting! Due first week of December....they know if it's a boy or girl but not telling anyone else. I had an afghan already made and put it........ somewhere....I figured it would be a few years yet. Now where on earth did I put that.......
My nephews' lil boy just turned 1....they grow up so fast.

Cannot find that afghan anywhere so will have to make a different one. Bought one little outfit and fabric to make about 4 little drawstring sleepers.
It's nearly impossible to find stuff that is gender neutral out there.

Re: I'm going to be a great-aunt...again
4x6' afghan is done, boots and cap done, sweater nearly done. Several cute toy patterns printed out at the ready: manatee, frog, flamingo.....
I know he'll get the usual bears, dogs, etc. I wanted to give him something a bit more unique. The flamingo and manatee toys will be in memory of the great-great-grandpa he won't get to meet, who lived in Florida for decades. If he hadn't had that heart surgery I'm sure he would've been here to greet this lil one!

Sweater done, manatee done (cute too) AND a Very Hungry Caterpillar to go with the book. Pulled up a pattern I can use for a Poky Little Puppy.
Becky, if I sent pics could you post them in here for me?
Baby shower is on the 4th. The place for it is so close we can walk to it if the weather is nice enough. They finally paved that portion of the walking path.

Sure! Poky Little Puppy was one of my favorite Little Golden Books when I was small.

Thanks....it was one of my favorites too. Found a new copy with three Poky Puppy stories in it.
Haven't made the puppy yet, I'm thinking Christmas.

Re: I'm going to be a great-aunt...again
I held back the seal and elephant for Christmas. There was NO pattern for the butterfly, I drafted it myself. Three tries to get the wings and it's still not quite like the one in the book.
Have a lion done and halfway through drafting a prototype giraffe toy. So far so good except I'll have to make the next giraffe with smaller more numerous color patches.
The gifts she got were a hit! Everyone loved the caterpillar (all around the room you could hear multiple "oh that's so cute!") and the outfit ("his dad will love that!"). My niece appreciated and commented on all the time, work, and thought that went into it. The little wall rack was well received too. It has six zoo animals on it with hooks. Told my niece to hang it on the wall low enough that this kid at the age of two can hang stuff up. "You're never too young to learn to hang your clothes up." I was making my bed at two, not very neat, but made. She liked that short story.
Three books, two for the baby and one for her "What to expect the first year". Held that thick one up and commented "a little light reading". LOL The afghan she said was heavy and very warm and BIG! Told her why I made it that way. I can see from the pic above the colors didn't all show through like they are in reality. I did the border on that during my last dr. visit in Chicago. I had enough time between and afterwards waiting for my ride who was late to finish it all.
Just an example of what my kids and grandkids would've gotten if I'd had any.

The giraffe turned out pretty good. Nearly 12" tall. Everybody here says it's really cute....even Brad.
Becky, if I sent those pics of the lion and giraffe can you please post them in here?

Re: I'm going to be a great-aunt...again
Will send them when I finish the second giraffe. First one had the slope of the back wrong so the rear legs are too long. It was the prototype after all.
Can't find a rhino pattern I like. Will probably have to draft one for that too.

Unfortunately I don't have it in an email. It will have to be by phone again.
Have the giraffe and a baby elephant done as well as the lion.

Going to try to get a good picture of those today since the sun is shining so well I'll have decent lighting. Hopefully they'll also be in focus.
