what authors do you read? Empty what authors do you read?

Post by jeanebellini Fri Aug 06, 2010 5:26 pm

since i've started to read Koontz i've added another author to my 'need to read all his stuff' list.
i also read King, Evanovich, Coyle(the Coffee House mysteries), some are even just book series that i can't remember the names of the author!
i'm wondering if anyone else reads like this and what authors or book series you might read?

I don't read crime books. I usually don't read books for adults. I tend to stick to fantasy, historical ficiton and contemporary kid's books.

Here is a list of authors who I read a lot:

E.D. Baker, Brian Jacques, Patricia A. McKillip, Bruce Coville, Beverly Cleary and R.L. Stine.

There are more authors. That is all I want to list.

Let's see. The Bronte Sisters. Arthur Conan Doyle. tony Hillerman.
James D. Doss. It's a fairly extensive list. I've really moved away from
the sword and sorcesser stuff. I used to really love that. Now it's mainly
mysteries. Tony Hillerman and James D. Doss have their novels set on
different Indian reservations. Hillerman, who is now deceased, set his on
the Navajo reservation. Doss has set on the Ute reservation.

and i completely forgot...Ellery Queen...i need to see if they have EQ books in the library..those are the ones that got me into mysteries.

Poe, I forgot Poe. I've gotten out of reading that too I used to love
Sci Fi. I enjoyed the Harry Potter books and Tolkein's Trilogy. Loved
Andre Norton, especially her Witch World series. Never really cared for
Bradbury or Henlein. Who wrote "Something Wicked this way comes."
I know it's a line from McBeth but it was also either a book or short story
that was later made into a movie.

Bradbury wrote Something Wicked this Way Comes. he's written novels and short stories. i haven't read anything recently but he (and Poe) i need to go back and read again. i never have found the Halloween Tree. i love the halloween cartoon they made of it and i bet the books is even better.
best yet....Bradbury is also a Mutts fan:)

I saw that. I'm adding the movie too my Netflix list. I only keep
six movies in my quque(sp). I have a hand written list of movies
that I add as movies are shipped. It was a strange movie and James
Horner did the soundtrack if I remember.

Something Wicked This Way Comes. Did you know that it is a line
from Mcbeth. One of the three witches spoke at the approach of
the Thane Duncan. I think. The line goes something like this
"By the pricking of my thumb, something wicked this way comes."

A lot of times I read a book and not pay much attention to the author. Authors I have been reading a lot of the last few years are Jim Butcher and Diana Gabaldon. I have read a few Stephen King books in the past few months. I was introduced to Naomi Novik back in July and started to her books. I also have read some of J.R.R. Tolkien books, but not lately.

You know I'm glad you mentioned Tolkien. I haven't visited
Middle Earth in many a year. Thanks for the reminder Fluffnstuff.

ah Jim Butcher..i still have to get to my pile of his books! he's a cool guy and what i've read i've liked;)

i finished Cat of the Century (why does this woman wait to do the reveals in the last 10 pages or less???esh)
got 5 or 6 books from the library while i was there..i might have read a couple already.they're mysteries with cats written by a guy named Marion (I need to do some research again cuz i think he might be from NJ..not sure. when i was reading them years ago i was reading another person as well and one of them is from NJ).
i also bought 5/$1 from the book sale shelves. one is the book Precious was made from, two are fast mysteries and one is called Perfume which was just there and looked interesting.

I like stories about real people. Elizabeth Berg, Sandra Dallas, Marian Keyes, Jennifer Weiner, Maeve Binchy, etc. I also love what I think of as "candy" books. Just for fun! Robert Parker (RIP), John Grishham, Laura Van Wormer, even Barbara Delinsky, who sometimes veers off the romance track long enough to write something really meaningful, like Shades of Grace.

oh that's a good term...have to remember that...i read a lot of 'candy' books....most of my series mysteries as that way.
i have so much reality in my life that i like to escape into just plain stupid little mysteries when i'm reading.
the cat mysteries i'm reading now are by Marion Babson....who is an expat living in England. (not the NJ guy i thought earlier). I'm pretty sure i've read the one i've got open already...its about an actor who knocks head with the theater cat as he falls down. now the human's body is in ICU and the human's mind is in the cat.

I've read Edgar Allen Poe, H.P. Lovecraft, Stephen King, Koontz, Robin Cook, Asimov. All the Star Trek books, Monk and Psych books, V, X-Files, Aliens, Predator (who all tend to use the same authors). Lots of scifi, horror, mystery, and some comedy.

When it comes to sci fi tv and movie adaptions you'll find about a dozen folks who write most of them...Peter David is my fave (he can write a movie adaption that makes you feel like you're watching the movie)...but there are several others. (and a lot show up at the ComicCon:) )

Sounds interesting.............I'll have to see if the library has those to borrow after I'm done with this series. I have two more books after this one to read yet.

I have so many authors I read that I would not know where to begin. and I'm reading alot more now as I've been reading alot of the discards.

yep...i think it was the second one;) (I can't remember if there are three or four books in that series).

good ol' Peter David, he's a real trouper when it comes to cons and things. i think he rarely misses any of them all around the US and maybe some in the UK.(He had a major health scare a few months ago as well).

Tolkien,
Jim Butcher (especially the Harry Dresden shtuff. I'm waiting for 'Changes' to come out in paperback over here and there are two more after that that I need to get.)
Joseph Delaney,
Heinlein (especially 'Have Spacesuit Will Travel', I laugh out loud every time I read it, and The Puppet Masters was the first Sci |Fi book I ever read so it holds a special place in my heart),
Piers Anthony(Triple Detante was the second Sci Fi book I read),
Diana Wynne Jones,
Jenny Nimmo,
Livi Michaels (Star Wolves is hilarious),
C J Cherryh,
Arthur Conan Doyle (How I wanted to go with Prof Challenger to the lost world),
Edgar Rice Burroughs (The Martian books. I wanted to ride a Thoat and have Tars Tarkas, the green Martian to go on adventures with),
H G Wells,
H P Lovecraft,
There are more, but I'm stopping while I'm ahead.
