Happy Early Birthday to Fiffur!!!
If I remember correctly, Fiffur's birthday is tomorrow, and I'll be traveling and unable to connect, so I'm coming here to wish her a happy birthday today. Have a wonderful birthday, Fif!!!

Thanks! It is on Sunday and since I'm not online on Sunday it's nice to get some of these early. Kinda helps put me in the mood for it. The weather today is not helping with that.

Wishes for a happy, happy birthday, fiff! What do you suppose Bijoux has planned? Probably the gift of letting you sit under him for a little while!
Have a great one!

Happy Birthday, Lori!!!
I like to send wishes on the day, but this is a special case. I'm so glad BC started this since you won't be online Sunday. I hope you'll have a happy and peaceful day, dear friend. Please see to it, okay?

So far I have a quiet day planned.............don't know if my mom has anything special planned or not. She's not saying. It's one of the "big birthdays" so who knows?

A "big" birthday, eh? So how old are you? You brought it up so now you have to tell!
You probably won't read this until Monday, so I'll just say I hope you had an excellent day!

I can no longer claim to be a 40-something................
Bijoux did give me the gift of sitting under him, for a very long time. In fact, when we were in the apartment he was on me constantly, and mostly ignored mom! Just when I thought the day was going to be a bust (mom had a headache) my sis called and asked if we wanted to go out to dinner. She had a gift certificate she'd bought months earlier for 1/2 price that was going to expire so we went out on it (it was NOT bought with my birthday in mind). Everyone had a nice steak dinner with sweet potato fries and the salad bar. The restaurant gave me a free small lavacake with whipped cream. We all had a piece of that and the respective furkids got whipped creme brought home to them. I know Bijoux enjoyed his!

Welcome from me, too! It's a pretty good club once you get used to the idea.
Sounds like the stars converged to give you an unexpectedly festive evening after all. I'm so glad!!

Re: Happy Early Birthday to Fiffur!!!
It's not so bad, it doesn't really bother me to be that old. Now my sis..............it seems every single birthday bothers her. And she's still waiting for me to get a gray or white hair (she's going to have to wait a while longer, I haven't seen one yet!). I figure, it's better to grow older than the alternative.......
Growing older is required, but growing up is optional!

Lol, Lovekitties! I've been a member of AARP for years, but the meaningful discounts (to me) will come in my 60's when the local grocery store Senior Clubs kick in. 4 years and counting.

Re: Happy Early Birthday to Fiffur!!!
Just before my birthday I got a packet in the mail about preplanning and paying for my funeral! I know I'm over the hill and picking up speed, but I am far from ready for a funeral. I don't want a funeral: if folks didn't see me when I was alive to enjoy their company, I sure don't want them to see me when I'm dead.
In 45 years I might qualify for the senior discount at a few stores here.........now that will make me feel old. So far, I don't feel any older.

Re: Happy Early Birthday to Fiffur!!!
I hope you don't have to be 95 to get a senior discount!
It's funny because if you go to diffeent places that offer senior discounts they all seem to have different ages attached., not withstanding the AARP discount (I think you can joint AARP at around 55 yrs old, but regulare senior discounts can be 59 or 60 or 62 or whatever.
I only know that when my friend and I went to the Golden Corral near her home in May the cashier asked if we get senior discount. We asked her who she meant. Now I'm close to 60 but everone tells me I look about 10 years younger. and my friend, who is 5 years younge than me looks older . the cashier never did answer, I guess we flustered her, but she was a really young thing.

I think you can join AARP anytime you want, but their discounts depend on ages set by their retail and other "partners."
Shame on you, Lovekitties, for putting that poor child at Golden Corral on the spot when she was only trying to be helpful! *Suzzzz's frowny face dissolves* Who am I kidding? That's hilarious! The only times I've been carded as an adult (aside from the ugly "bartender story" which you've all heard too many times) were from conscientious children trying to do their jobs and to whom, let's face it, all old people look alike. And by old I mean anyone over 25 or so.
Now, receiving a packet of info about funeral pre-planning when you're about to hit 50 is just wrong! If there was a prepaid envelope included, I hope you sent EVERYTHING back to them in it so they'd have to pay the postage!

Re: Happy Early Birthday to Fiffur!!!
OOps, I didn't mean 95 (I don't even know if I'll live that long!)...................I meant when I hit 55...............
And no prepaid envelope with that funeral preplanning junk darn it all, otherwise I'd have stuffed it full and heavy, so it cost them more! I heard a good joke the other day: an old woman specified in her funeral plans that she was to have NO male pallbearers. Her reasoning: if they wouldn't take her out while she was alive, they were not going to take her out to the cemetary when she was dead.
For anyone who wants to check it out, it's hilarious (I know I sent it to a few folks in here but enjoy it again): This lady, a resident of a retirement community, was asked to give the invocation at a dinner/convention of retirement community managers. She does so, but then decides to add a few words of her own...

Re: Happy Early Birthday to Fiffur!!!
i didn't get the funeral things but i've been getting a lot of insurance plan crap....and in the beginning i got a lotof aarp. they seem to have lightened up on that stuff.
i think my mom got aarp when she was either 62 or 65.didn't have much time to use it.
we occassionally have people come into the store and ask if we have a senior discount (also have teachers who want a teacher's discount and people in the military or relatives of those in the military who want a discount), I want to laugh at them, but hold my tongue. (we barely get a discount ourselves at the store and we work there!).
i've had to card people buying M rated video games...no matter what their age. sometimes i do get guys in there who look to be 12 and wind up being in their mid 20s.
When it comes to discounts at restaurants ...man, i hope i live that long...i remember my mom getting discounts or at least things like free coffee when she turned 50s! (my mom was one of those who looked older than she was...partly do to going gray early and partly due to all the pain she lived through).
i actually had a friend i've known for years telling about her bd and how old she was at 40 something. i was laughing...she asked why i was laughing when i was only in my 30s. man..i didn't think i looked that good!

Re: Happy Early Birthday to Fiffur!!!
I've gotten plenty of life insurance crap in the mail lately, as well as aarp, stuff for medicare (I have a long way to go before I qualify for that), you name it.
Got a nice birthday card and a short letter from my grandpa yesterday in the mail. Mailed it late but I guess that's okay. At 90 he has a girlfriend, goes dancing 4 nights a week, and is going strong. I really hope I take after him for longevity...............

God bless your grandpa, Fif. he souds great.
We have a lady in the office who just turned 87, and my dad is almost 86 and still working every day. He retired to Florida years ago but keeps getting involved in things. he's now presiden of the condo, and goes into the office every day. he also organizes things line the Memorial day parade, and an organization that sends gifts and things to our troops overseas.
