Re: My journey to better health
I am getting tired of all those high morning readings I'm getting. I was so good eating low carb yesterday and still woke up to a 105 today. Frustrating I tell you. The unobscured superbright security light from the bank next door keeping me up half the night doesn't help either. They ripped out all the bushes, including the live ones so now my lovely view is of their parking lot, driveup window, and that damned light! I don't get any shade anymore either.

My BGL is high despite not feeding like eating much.....is that my liver dumping glucose into my blood doing that? I have next to no appetite with this heat wave going on, but I'm thirsty as h*ll most of the time.

Get thee to a doctor just to make sure it isn't the sweat making you thirsty. Don't mess around with it. If you cool down and are still really thirsty, it could be a sign of ketoacidocis. But, that usually happens with REALLY high BGL. 105 - 120 doesn't count as REALLY high.

You know what may help is club soda with a fruit slice in it.

Re: My journey to better health
Woke up to a 110 this morning, but once I cooled off last night at moms' my appetite was roaring, my thirst died off, and I had a big snack a tad too late I think (but boy was it good! a slice of real chocolate cake--I know....I shouldn't have had that). That 110's the highest I've been in quite a while premeal. I know I'm drinking a lot of water since I'm sweating buckets in the heat, it literally drips off me at times. If I'm out in the heat more than 10 minutes I start getting sick to my stomach too. I'm sure the stress of this heat isn't helping matters any or the lack of sleep from the bank noise/light and hot apartment.
We'll see how I do when the heat breaks and the place cools off. I just finally paid off last years' dr bill and can't afford to get a new one. They don't give you years to pay if off anymore like they used to, you get 12 months to get it all paid or off to the collection agency it goes.

Re: My journey to better health
I was much better this morning, 101 and I had a tiny sliver of that double chocolate pudding cake last night too. Slept a little better, should be even cooler tonight so I expect my numbers to drop a little more as long as I don't lose control and pig out on a big slice of that yummy cake! That cake is too hard to resist!

Re: My journey to better health
My numbers are better since the weather cooled off. Only if I overindulge a bit on the prebed snack am I waking up over 100 now.
Got a bargain, sort of, at Big Lots.....they had 2# bags of flaxseed meal for only $5. Quite a bit cheaper than at Woodmans since they only have the 1# bag, but I had to pay cash for it at Big Lots so got taxed too. (stupid IL, taxes food, tp, etc. you can't do without and still be alive)
Now I can make more of those wonderful chocolate 1 minute flax muffins and now the flax/almond flour donuts!

Re: My journey to better health
I've notice with these multiple heat waves: I got up at least 10pts during a heatwave, then drop when the wave breaks. Doesn't matter what I eat....the stress of the heat is enough. The pancake breakfast didn't rise me for as long as I thought it would, which is good. I took my own zero-carb syrup with me and used it.
I wonder how much weight I've lost.....clothes are getting looser still but can't find a scale in the store to find out. I literally don't know what size I wear anymore, even my shoes are getting loose.

Re: My journey to better health
Well, I splurged yesterday bigtime......mom had a certificate for free icecream at the Dairy Haus next door to the library. Had what amounted to a double scoop of pecan brickle icecream in a waffle cone. NO idea how high my GBL went (I was afraid to check) but 4 hours later I was at 65! Mom said I did well, I told her I must have went waaaaay high and this was the crash afterwards. Explained that those huge peaks and valleys did the damage to your body cells and shouldn't do this but maybe once a year.
But boy did that icecream cone taste good!!!!!

Re: My journey to better health
Problem is: now the old cravings are coming back bigtime on me. Oreos, icecream, potato chips, all the bad for me stuff I've been so good to avoid for months and months. I dreamed of eating an entire bag of M&Ms last night!

Re: My journey to better health
I've been craving fruit. I ate 2 pluots (plum/apricot hybrid fruit) and a banana today. I must need folic acid or something. (NO! I'm not pregnant. heehee) It isn't bad for me, but it's really weird. I hardly every crave healthy food.

Re: My journey to better health
I crave healthy food more now than I used to. Pluots sound good, haven't seen them in the stores here for quite a few months. I sure could go for a nice juicy pear right about now.
Got a monster zucchini at the pantry yesterday (they charged me $1 for it). It's at least 10" long and about 9-10" around one end, about 5-6" at the other, and must weigh about 3#. Now I'll get a lot of zoodles out of that! Thinking of trying to freeze some raw zoodles too.....think that would work? Just make them as usual with the peeler, put them in a bag, squeeze out the air, and freeze them?

Re: My journey to better health
You can freeze zucchini sliced/zoodles/whatever. You might want to salt them a bit and let some water drain, but it isn't necessary. Whatever you do with that monster, don't save the seeds. At that size, the seeds are like little rocks.

Re: My journey to better health
I was thinking of saving those seeds for planting next year.....if either my sis will give a small corner of her garden or my mom's building will let her have a big pot to grow stuff in (she gets plenty of direct sunlight that I don't). If mom's building will let her we'll somehow train it to climb a trellis, with pantyhose holding up any budding fruits we get so they can grow big without falling or breaking off. She wants it to shade her AC unit and I want to get it on a trellis to keep lil critters from nibbling on it. Plus that will keep the inept lawn guys from mowing the plant over!
If nothing else maybe they can be salted and roasted for a snack like pumpkin seeds.
I had yogurt this morning flavored with sugarfree Torani syrup (got it nearly half price between the store sale and the nice goodsized coupons I had)......hazelnut yogurt is good stuff! I can also have caramel, Irish cream, chocolate macadamia, and strawberry, all without a lot of extra carbs.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough torani + plain greek yogurt = mmmmmmmmmmm!
Going to the same health fair that diagnosed me last year. It's a week earlier this year, so we'll see how much I weigh and what the doc says.

Re: My journey to better health
Did I mention that I've started making my own Greek yogurt? It's easy, good, and cheap too! I'm editing this to say that the lemon curd that I put in the yogurt is not too cheap, but boy oh boy is it tasty! I'll have to see if making my own would save money!
Re: My journey to better health
OOO! Share technique and recipe for the lemon curd kind. I love Greek yogurt. I'm sure it would be healthier to make it ourselves.

OOoooo, I wouldn't mind having that recipe either!
Will let you know what the doc says when I see him tomorrow at the health fair.

It should be interesting and he should be impressed. People will often not
make the kind of effort that you've put into it.

Re: My journey to better health
It was a different doc......but the same nurse. She noticed the difference right away. But he said I was doing everything exactly the way I should and have been from the start. I told him to tell that to my "you're going overboard" mother, who should also be doing the same thing as me but isn't.
I only lost another 1 1/2# since April.
