Re: Crisis...anyone?
OhMy.....bet you could've used my toyfishing tool.
Finally have a lead on a car.....but it's more than we wanted to spend. But only 10 years old, 4 door automatic, 83000 miles on it, clean, from a nonsmoker, and yet only $6500 + tax & title transfer. Everything else with that low mileage is going for nearly double that here.
Keep your fingers crossed that mom likes it and buys it.

Re: Crisis...anyone?
2005 Chevy Cobalt....which mom vetoed. Said it was too small, too expensive, too low to the ground. But it was only 10 years old with only 83000 miles on it. Finding a car like that is a miracle these days. My entire body groaned when she said no......
My feet constantly throb now, my knees ache, hips feel like someone tried to pull my legs out of the sockets, back is sore and I am soooooooo tired. I spend at least 3 hours a day just walking in this insane cold weather. Mom says "you aren't any more sore or tired than anyone else in this building". Really? I beg to differ.

The point isn't the comparison of anyone's pain anyway. Does she have a way to keep her pain in control without a car? Sigh... How sad. Chevy Cobalts are pretty reliable cars too.

Re: Crisis...anyone?
Mom apparently expects perfection. Reminds me of her mother who found fault with everything in creation. Where she thinks she's going to find a perfect car really cheap I don't know.....not this galaxy that's for sure!
She has pain meds to keep her pain down. I don't have any of that, not even Advil as I'm out.
So still no car and walking about 8 miles a day....how I keep going I don't know except maybe my need to keep a roof over my head so I don't freeze to death at night?
I can hear mom complain now after I hike 4 miles to the nearest bus stop in Beloit, WI, ride that over an hour to get to the store, and throw away $20-30 for a taxi to get back home. I just need a day off in less pain to actually do that so I can finally get to the store. It's been 3 weeks and counting.....

When you work in food service and have done other such hazardous jobs you don't normally get upset when you cut yourself. Well I'm washing glassware tonight and break a glass. Would you believe this cut is still bleeding. I wonder if the two asperiens I take every day have something to do with it.

Re: Crisis...anyone?
It could. I've worked in foodservice, and you're right. Slicing a finger with a boning knife? Eh... It isn't off, so it isn't bad. My usual treatment is to wash well and put on a TIGHT bandage of gauze held on with a latex glove finger and regular old duct/electrical tape. Hold it up if it doesn't stop quick enough. Once it's done bleeding, I replace the mummy finger with a regular bandage/bandaid.

Well it finally stopped bleeding looks terrible and I don't want to think about how many gloves I went through today. To add insult the injury a pipe burst under the building and we had to shut the water off.

Re: Crisis...anyone?
Two aspirins will definitely thin the blood enough to make a gash like that bleed, and bleed, and bleed.....did you need to get stitches Sue? Has the pipe been fixed BTW?
I had a glass break once while my hand was in it getting the gunk out.....dishwater turned red immediately. Sliced a good sized chunk right out of my pinky knuckle. Have a nice scar there now.

No but it was sore for a day. Today I made sure I gloved up when I was preppring stuff for the salad bar. The pipe was fixed Saturday, the plumber came out Saturday, Pete said it took him and his helper a little over an hour. Charged us $120.00. Talk about a preachers price.

OUCH! Â your aching wallets.....
I got hurt in the storage unit garage yesterday.....10 minutes after I got there the lights went out. The electricity "will be periodically interrupted for non-payment" according to the red notice tacked to the door. Banged my knees and dropped something heavy on my head. Now have to either be lucky enough to be there the roughly 30 minutes the lights are on or use a flashlight for the hour they're off. So much fun this morning trying to dial the combination on the lock while also holding a large but dim flashlight. I need 3 hands!

Re: Crisis...anyone?
We got headlamps for stuff like that. 3 for really cheap. They are LED lights (very bright) that are on a band that goes around and over your head. They work great to free up your hands, and they're brighter than standard flashlights. They also have the benefit of always pointing in the same direction as you are looking.

I have a small LED flashlight with a hook on it. I tried to hang it on my coat but it doesn't stay still. I've managed to be there when the lights were on only once so far.

Well tomorrow should be interesting. The water company posted a notice on the door that they water would be shut off for five to six hours starting at nine in the morning. The whining has already commenced.

Re: Crisis...anyone?
Time to load up buckets and trash cans so potties can be flushed. A gallon in the fridge should cover drinking water. Not so bad, right?

I'll fill a trash can tomorrow and another jug of water to just to make sure we have enough drinking water.

Re: Crisis...anyone?
When I was a little kid, we lived in Turkey. The city shut off the water at 8:00 every night until 6:00 in the morning. There was a drought, and I learned a lot about how to conserve and store water. I still hate not having it on demand though. I hope things work out ok.
