the weirdest penny i've found is a steel one..i actually have two...but one is weird. its silver but its not really old (well, not old enough to be a steel)at least not from the part of the date i can read. (maybe it came from a stray TARDIS:) )

Re: Saving money
the only real steelies were issued during WWII. Next time we get togethe, jeane, bring it with you and maybe I can figure out what it is.
I felt like I hit a jackpot in the slot machines this morning.
Someone had stuck some paper into one of the telephone slots to keep any change from coming down. I couldn't get the paper out last night. on the way in this morning the paper wasn't there and I gave the tab in the slot my usual push and quarters started coming down! Final count was $3.75 in quarters.!!! , including one of the new Fed. park quarters which I didn't have, and a state quarter which I didn't have. the person who shoved the paper in and took it out probably didn't know that you have to give that tab a little push push.

that's a LOT of quarters for a phone....there must be a bigger shoot for them to come down than i thought..or they were really crammed up in there.

MyLord, what a windfall!
If I wanted pennies for my grandparents birthyears I'd have to have: 1921 (the grandpa that's still alive in Florida), 1922, 1923, and 1925. I know I can only dream of getting those.

you and me both, Fif.
I wish I had started my coin collection when I was a kid, back in the days you could still get alot of coins from the 20s and 30s. I did have some indian head pennies but I have no idea what happened to them I only have one now

Re: Saving money
checked out that nickle and a library quarter (think its a quarter) and both of them have the dates worn off so they're no value to a collector. just something fun for my little collection and maybe to some steampunk dodads!).

Re: Saving money
lots of people make jewelry out of old coins. The liberty quarter is silver so is probably worth something as metal

Re: Saving money
i'm a buzz agent and got some gel insoles to try to out. i have to see if they will fit in my sneakers or my suede shoes and try them out...should try it tomorrow cuz its a short day at work (just in case they slip around too much walking home etc).
i haven't been able to get anything from those free things for a couple weeks. what makes me mad is that i will fill the whole form out and submit it THEN they say they have run out. in other words, they get all my info THEN they say "oh by the way, you're not getting anyting ' (and hey thanks for the info we will sell!)

Re: Saving money
My mom has the link for that site now too, and everything she tries to get says they're all gone. I haven't received a single thing yet...........she got a book only 2 days after she ordered it and now they spam her every day with pleas for money for "starving asian kids". We have kids right here in town who would go hungry a lot more often if not for the church pantry.

Re: Saving money
well if you get a freebie from any religious organization they're going to do that. i get stuff in the mail where they want you to buy this book or that with a pledge. naw, sorry,,, not gonna do it unless its something i really believe in.
emails are great....delete delete delete;) i also have another email address that i use for a lot of those things. i go in it every third blue moon and clean it out good;)
i posted something in the in the news and on the net area about extreme couponing that i think i should have put in here...but oh well...its an interesting article to read if you go over to that section. these 'extreme couponers' are ripping stores off big time because they know the scams.

Re: Saving money
sometimes the extreme couponers are as bad as hoarders.
on the free stuff sites, I just tend not to bother with alot of the religious things. Hasn't been much I want lately. I don't need baby formula or stuff
didn't find any coins yesterday but I did find an earring someone had lost, some nice loops with black glass bicone beadds that I can use for something
found a dime so far today on the sidewalk

Re: Saving money
yeah i haven't found anything for a while. as for change...i've been finding dimes here and there. yesterday i found a dime and then a penny in front of the Dunkin Donuts area of the grocery store....today i found a dime in the coin cup before i put my money in to pay. i have $8 in 'found money' so far this year...if i keep this up i might have $9 before mid Aug. I just would really like to have enough to pay for one trip into nyc!

Re: Saving money
a penny is never to beat up to spend...put it in a roll and there's nothing they can see!
i got a good deal today....had a bogo coupon for a packet of wet kitty food which was on sale....when the coupon went through it doubled so both wound up being free! its a 'specialty' type food so this will be a treat one day.

that's good, Jeane. They never double coupons around here, and my local supermarket won't take coupons for anything that is on sale, or coupons printed off the internet.

Re: Saving money
is it a little hole in the wall indie type grocery store? cuz if its a regular chain store i'd say find their website and tell them you want to use coupons! i can understand little mom and pop stores no taking coupons...not worth the hassle for them to send the few coupons in.

Woodman's Grocery here is a big chain, yet they'll only take one internet coupon per visit.

Re: Saving money
it's not a mom and pop, its Associated but it's independently owned. They actually have two locations. They do take coupons, but as I noted they won't take them for items that are on sale, and they wont take internate (printed out coupons) I guess it's their perogoative as the owners

Re: Saving money
yeah they have to be able to make up their own rules to have screwy rules like that,lk. most people wait for stuff to be on sale to use a coupon.
fiff i can see a place allowing only one internet coupon cuz some of those coupon places will let you print and print and print those suckers out. its not like getting a coupon from the paper where you get one...or at most two if they wind up making a mistake and putting two sets in your paper!

Re: Saving money
the ryder library branch has a box where people can put coupons they do not use and others can take the extras. It's a good system. i wish my regular library branch did this.

We finally had a spiral with coupons all sorted in it for nearly a month, then someone stole it.
