no they were trying to get stuff out of the house...not give it to me to use.
i don't need anyting more to have to throw away when i have to move again. I took the chair cuz it was something i'm pretty sure i had paid for,it takes up little space and i can use it.
of course they threw away a desk chair a few years back i really could have used...never have ever had a real desk chair. the ones i've been using just aren't for sitting in for long periods of time.

Those plastic chairs are the ones you can stack, right? Those don't take up a lot of space at all, but they can be very useful.

no, these chairs are like the ones they used to have in offices (or waiting rooms) in the late 60s and through some of the 70s. they have the same center leg with four little legs that a lot of office chairs have. Ikea might still have something similar to them for sale...they tend to change stuff every couple years but somethings aren't changed that much.

Oh, I know what you mean. We still have chairs like that around here. Very durable for plastic.

here is a link to a chair similar to the ones i have..mine aren't shiney or have the hole in the back....when i got them they were somewhere between $5.99 -$9.99..i can't remember. they were really cheap and they were pink so i bought two of them at once for myself.

(there's a nice little table and chair set in there...only $79.99 for the whole thing..if i ever get a place i guess i'm going to be buying what i need from Ikea;) )

you have to be so careful with bedbugs nowadays that the only things i'd take from the curb would be solid plastic (like these chairs)..unless i knew the person (like the lady who used to live next door she was one of the cleanest people i've ever seen!).
its just sad about the freakin bedbugs in the tri state area.

Well, nothing wrong with wooden furniture like dressers, tables, and chairs. If it has padding don't bring it inside; strip it first of all fabric and padding, wash it down and check the padding thoroughly, if the padding is cotton or wool you can wash it on hot to kill anything in it, wash the fabric, then you can put it back together. Only need a staplegun usually to do all that. If the padding is in bad shape you can replace it with new. I've done this with good results with simple furniture styles. I don't think I'd even want to tackle something like a wingback chair.

i swear they've said on the news that bed bugs get into wood as well as fabric stuff..... i wish i had a bed bug sniffing dog like Rosco! (I love this ad they have here...its an exterminator who has a beagle named Rosco(e?) who can sniff out bed bugs...its Rosco the bed bug sniffing dog!).

I've read or heard about him somewhere. I can't see how they'd get into the wood except maybe in the cracks. I supposed if you used a scrub brush or toothbrush to get in the nooks and crannies then it would be clean. You could always scrub it with some insecticide, rinse well, let it air outside a few days, then it would be okay to bring in.

i don't know.;..the only thing i've heard that will get rid of bed bugs is either freezing them (this works best for furniture i guess) or heating them to a certain level. they say not to wear anything you buy directly from the store....not even to have it sitting around in an open bag in your house. you're supposed to put in a dryer and get it really hot.

Where would you find a freezer big enough to hold a chair, or a couch? Don't know if freezing them will kill them or not, they might just go into hibernation. Now heat, they'd die of dehydration.

Crisis...anyone? - Page 3 Empty Re: Crisis...anyone?

Post by BobCat Tue Aug 31, 2010 1:19 pm

Well, I'm changing the subject, because the idea of bedbugs gives me a case of the creeps. affraid

My crisis is that Bobby's automatic litter box bit the dust the other day, and I can't seem to find a suitable replacement yet, so I've gone back to the old kind. It reminded me of way back when I used to use that big heavy clay litter, and I'm so glad I don't have to use that any more! Anyway, I bought a "sifting" litter pan the other day and it works surprisingly well. I'm still looking for just the right Littermaid automatic box, because I love the idea of a machine doing my scooping for me, but I wanted to mention that the sifting pan does a good job. It consists of two nested pans, one sifting insert (like a big sieve), and then the frame around the top to keep them from kicking out a lot of litter. What you do is to take of the frame, lift up the sifting sieve, which lifts up the culprits for disposal and then put the sifter and frame on the second (empty). Then you can pour the litter out of the first pan over the sieve and then the second pan becomes the litter container until the next time. I wish the box was a little larger, but otherwise it works well.

do you have to have a certain kind of litter for that? or do you just have to use pine that breaks down or some of clumping stuff?
if i ever get to a place with a lot of (reasonably priced)litter boxes i'd like to find a bigger one...the ones i have now are grocery store ones with the detatchable lip thingie. keeps the litter in fairly well, but i need bigger boxes cuz somebody seems to miss the box every so often. not bad...but its not fun to find tootsie rolls between the two boxes Rolling Eyes

You need good clumping litter for both the automatic one and this little sifting model.

Never even heard of it! What kind of stores carry it? I usually do my litter shopping with either the groceries (who am I kidding - Wesley does the groceries!) or at Target or Walmart.

We buy World's Best at Safeway here in Lamar. When we're in the big city, we get big bags at Petsmart.

Hmmm, Safeway stores are called Dominick's in my area. I'll have to get Wesley to check it out when he does the grocery shopping. It's really good, eh? Better than Tidy Cat?

Editing to say - it's made of corn? I wonder if that would gum up somehow in the automatic box. They're pretty particular about what they want you to use in those Littermaid boxes.

World's Best clumps better than any other litter I've used, and it's lighter weight, which is important when you clean out as much litter as we do. Also the cats love it, even the bad kitties. The foster kittens dig around in it even if they don't have anything to contribute.

The red bag is the multicat clumping formula. I really do
like this cat litter.
