Scrooge my puppy dog.
I do not know if anyone remembers me talking about him. I have been missing him a lot more lately. I want another dog but we can't right now. any suggestions?

My only suggestion is to maybe volunteer at your shelter as a dog walker and/or socialiser if they have a program like that; lots of shelters do. You'd probably want to take them all home, of course, at least at first, and that might be hard. But if you can do it, you'd get to spend regular time with lots of dogs who really need help staying happy and ready to go to forever homes. If you have some time to commit, you could at least find out about it.

I don't but then I'm still pretty new here. Volunteer at one of the shelters or rescue groups. They are always in
need of dog walkers, etc. Can you foster? That might be a an option both Arni and "G" can give the best information on
that.
Suzzz, I was just getting ready to post the same idea.

I will look in to it since I haven't found a job yet and it might do me good to get out of the house.

You know you may make connections that will help you get a job. You never know you might get
odd jobs walking dogs for people when they are on vacation.

Dog walkers are the best! Definitely volunteer at the shelter. Not only do you get animal lovin' time, but you can make some great connections. Make sure you talk to the vets too. A lot of times they need volunteers at their clinics, and those jobs often lead to paying jobs.

Make sure to check the bulletin board at your local vet's office: people sometimes post ads for dogwalkers, kittysitters, etc. Ask the vet if he could use some help too. And animal shelters/rescues can always use another person to help walk and socialize furkids.

Good luck, Pierce. Like you say, it would get you out of the house. If you're anything like me when job hunting, it's too easy to get discouraged and just end up doing not much all day. Having someplace to go where they need you (and believe me, the shelters do!) would get you back into the swing of things -- on a regular schedule and like that. That alone can do a lot for your spirits and outlook.
Even if it's not animals, I'll bet lots of places (hospitals, day cares, retirement homes, farmers markets, human shelters?) would welcome volunteers. If you decide to call around and find out about such things, let us know, okay?

I will certainly do so and a human shelter would be an orphanage right.

Re: Scrooge my puppy dog.
I read somewhere that the average human walk is 4 miles per hour. That means the walk would take you about 15 minutes, maybe 20. Doable, don't you think?

Hey give it a try. I mean unless the weather is really ugly it could be a nice
walk.

I walked everywhere the past two days here, too windy for the bike. Very good workout walking against those wind gusts.......

Re: Scrooge my puppy dog.
Same here: nearest grocery store is 3 miles away and very expensive. No bookstore, no shopping unless you go at least 8 miles away. Everything is all spread out and we have NO public transportation in Rockton. Nearest bus system is 5 miles away and that's the bus stop closest to me. Can't afford car gas anymore, the bike is old and I can't peddle well against 30-50mph winds at my age. My knees and shins are killing me from all the walking I've done this week, including today. Shame I didn't have a large kite and a pair of roller skates.......I could make use of all this wind to get somewhere.

Of course you do, and you should keep looking. But volunteering is a good way to keep yourself sharp and out there. Not to mention the networking you can do, hearing about jobs in the community. Plus it looks good on any resume.
