Re: abandoned kitten
Oh! I just got back here. What a sweetie! He does have amazing ears. They remind me of Archimedes' ears when he was a 1 lb. little kitten. He grew up to be a LONG kitty with a LONG tail. I know Benny will grow into those ears and be just perfect.
I'm glad to hear that he's doing well. It's amazing what a little good care and lots of love can do, isn't it?

OOOoooooo, gold eyes. He's going to be a heartbreaker with those looks. How is the lil darling doing today? Playing with anyone yet?

Re: abandoned kitten
He will play with us if we let him lie in his comfy bed to do it. He reminds Kevin of that commercial (Bring me some meatloaf, and some beers!). He is spending a little more time out of his bed, though, and I take him into the livingroom in the evening to hang with me while we watch TV in the evening. He snuggles in and watches everything pretty closely. I would say he's much more alert and slightly more active than he has been. He keeps an eye on the little kittens when they have their play time, but he has no interest in joining them yet. That's ok, as they haven't had their booster shots yet. He's not afraid of the dogs or of the big cats as long as we have his back.

Re: abandoned kitten
Definitely on the mend then, he was in such rough shape it may be a while yet before he's energetic enough to give you fits chasing after him to keep him out of trouble. So good he likes to snuggle and lapsit, makes him a much better adoptive companion for an older person or a single person like me. Who knows, we'll see when he is 100% better and his true personality and activity level blossom.

I agree Fif, right now he's still healing and not sure of all that is going
on around him.

I think it's great that you take his little convalescing self into the family circle while still keeping him succored and safe. He may not have much energy yet, but he can still see the good life around him, and see what's possible. Many prayers!

Re: abandoned kitten
Yesterday while I was at work, Benny looked like he wanted out of his kennel, so Kevin took him out and sat with him during the day. It took Benny a couple of minutes to get used to the idea of Kevin holding him, but he settled in and watched the world go by, and gave Kevin some purrs.

Re: abandoned kitten
He's looking a little better each day. The fur is starting to grow back on the side of his nose, and he's a little less boney. He feels heavier when we pick him up as well.

I'm so glad Benny's showing an interest in life and is so amenable to a big ol' human holding him. He may turn out to be one of the greats! Another pic?

Re: abandoned kitten
I'll try to get a new pic tomorrow. Things were a little hectic today. I had 3 tiny kittens to bottle feed for the day as their foster mom had to drive to the big city of Pueblo. They did NOT want to take the bottle from me at first, so I had to check back with them every hour or so. I got enough formula into them to keep them going at least.
Benny is hilarious when I have to take his blankie out to shake off the kitty litter he's tracked on. He gives me this horrified look when I take the blankie, and he's in such a hurry to snuggle into it when I return it that it can be a little tough to get it spread out for him. He actually played with his jingle bell ball a little today. He's checked out the dangly cords, but he can't quite reach them from his bed, so those are a no go so far.

Re: abandoned kitten
Benny has had so many things taken away from him he's probably going to be clingy to anything you give him, at least for a while until he figures out it will be given back. The blanket is a prime example IMHO. He thought it was being taken away and when you give it back he's being very quick about making sure he's on it so it can't go anywhere without him.
Playing with the ball shows he's starting to feel a lot better. It won't be long now and he'll be all over the place....finally enjoying life the way he was meant to.

I don't know that he had anything taken away from him--I think he never had it to begin with. When I first put him in his big crate, he wouldn't get on his quilt bed. When I put him on the bed, he seemed to be pleasantly surprised. When he got the fleece blankie, he was over the moon. It is so soft!

Re: abandoned kitten
Then he's even more protective of 'his stuff' now that he finally has something. My mom is a bit of a hoarder because she went without a lot as a kid, even being homeless for a while. Maybe this is the kitty version?

OMG, he IS tiny! The pic of Jerry & Errol photobombing almost looks shopped, they're so much bigger! "Hi Jerry" brought tears.
