Re: Bingo found a home
They are actually different types of hounds. They might have the same mom or dad, but definitely not both.
Bingo got to play with our new(ish) neighbor, Joe. He is a very nice older man who just loves all the neighborhood animals. He has a beautiful garden, and has restored a run down old house to be very nice. Bingo and I loved talking to him, and we will definitely be back to visit more.

That's wonderful when people move in and fix up the old homes

Re: Bingo found a home
Our neighborhood is mostly houses from the late 1800s and early 1900s. Ours was built in 1902. There are Sears kit houses all over the place. It's really cool when they're fixed up. Ours needs a lot of interior help, but the outside is nice.
Bingo went visiting again yesterday. He helped his caddy bring black eyed peas to the neighbors. I don't like them, and got some in my CSA share. They love the things, so down the street the peas went. Bingo had a good time exploring different things at their house like the big, scary barn. I wish he wouldn't go in there since it looks like it's about to fall over, but I can't really keep him out without keeping him on leash. That's no fun.

I don't care for them either. Speaking of spooky I will be finishing downloading the last of photos of Kentucky. Wait till you see the ones of this old distillery.

Re: Bingo found a home
Today, we went to an oyster roast for the shelter that Bingo came from. They do such a great job with their dogs and cats. They even sometimes take in horses, goats, and chickens. The weather today was beautiful, and the food was terrific. I think Bingo would have approved, but he didn't come. The day was for the animals who still need to find homes. The cool thing is that the event raised money to buy a van to take dogs and cats to urban shelters up and down the east coast that have better placement opportunities than a small rural shelter.

That's fantastic. I'm starting to post photos of my trip to Kentucky. Eventually I will get to the critters.

I'm happy Bingo has new friends to visit (seems you do too). It's always fun having play dates.
Wish I could see pics of all the old houses near you Becky. I've never seen a Sears kit house but I've heard of them.

I bet you've seen tons of them and just didn't know they were catalog homes. They are all over the place.
Bingo just about ran for his whole walk today. It was really windy, and I think he was chilly.

Well, he was smart enough to know running helps generate body heat to keep you warm.
Just looked online, yeah we have a couple of those around here. A bit rundown but still occupied. Shame houses aren't that cheap anymore.

Re: Bingo found a home
Bad dog/good dog today. We were walking, and he was off-leash. He caught a scent of deer and TOOK OFF into the woods woofing. I could hear him, but I couldn't keep up. The ground in the woods is covered with leaves, and I was watching out for holes, ducking under shaggy branches, running into spider webs. I gave up. I went home and grabbed the dog treats and went back out. I couldn't hear him any more. I started to wonder if I needed to call animal control and let them know he was on the loose so they knew he has a chip and could call me.
I walked home, and guess who was waiting for me on the porch. I was so happy to see that goofy hound. I guess he just had a flashback to his hunting days. But, all's well and he's sleeping on his pillow while we watch baseball.

I don't know what it is with the hunting dogs but you know you can't live without them.

The real hunting dog packs are out now. We passed about 10 of them on our walk today. It's leash walks for Bingo until Christmas is over since the dogs are out. I don't want him running with packs.

Re: Bingo found a home
It's weird that I've always loved hunting dogs. I don't like that people hunt with them (other than the horse "hunts" that catch nothing on a regular basis). But, the dogs I've met have always been just great. I feel bad for the way they live, but good hunt clubs do take care of their dogs in a fashion.

The hunting breeds are incredible. My brother over the years had two English setters and a Springer. I had a Brittainy.

Bingo was crazy today. I'm not sure what got into him, but he was like a 65 pound puppy all day. BOUNCY Bingo.

Apparently, Bingo really wants to help the cable guy. We were walking today, and we passed the bucket truck. The guy was up in the bucket working on an overhead line. Bingo was fascinated. I might have to ask the guy to give him a ride.

Oh man! Bingo is not allowed to eat turkey livers ever again. He is stinking up the room. Lesson learned here.

Re: Bingo found a home
No exciting digestive stories today. Thank goodness!! He got to eat some regular turkey meat, which seemed to do fine. He also had his carrots for a snack.
The hunting dogs are out. Bingo doesn't seem interested at all in running with them. But, we're keeping him inside unless we're with him, and walking him on-leash. We also learned from a neighbor that he went visiting last week. Apparently, he likes our new neighbor, Mr. Joe. He knocked on the door and was surprised that he wasn't invited inside.

Silly pup. You're supposed to bring your mom along when you go visiting.

I had to put Bingo's blanket on while we walked, and while he goes out for potty breaks. It's COLD. The wind is screaming. Bingo goes out, does his thing, and comes right back in. No visiting.

Can't blame him....a bare butt in that cold wind would make anyone scoot for the indoors asap after getting business done!
